The 2nd Amendment does not give us the right to keep and bear arms. It guarantees it won’t be infringed. This is clear from the wording and from the U.S. Supreme Court:
The right there specified is that of ‘bearing arms for a lawful purpose.’ This is not a right granted by the Constitution. Neither is it in any manner dependent upon that instrument for its existence. The second amendment declares that it shall not be infringed; but this, as has been seen, means no more than that it shall not be infringed by Congress.

The Western Judaeo/Christian notion, which is properly understood as the Protestant notion, is that all rights come from God. The power-hungry are extremely jealous of this, because they want to be your “god” instead. That’s why they’ll change the language in the Declaration of Independence from “endowed by their Creator” to “given” or “granted” by government.
This is no mere oversight. It is deeply rooted in the authoritarian mindset. There can be no Greater Authority beyond the earthly rulers, and thus the earthly rulers are subject to no one. It is legal if they say it is legal. You can be forgiven if they say so, and you can be condemned likewise. They set the standards and they’re free to alter them at a whim. In their minds they do not seek, but have absolute authority, even over the scriptures, and even, in their own words, “over the very precepts of Christ” (that’s straight from the Vatican). It is why they hate both the U.S. constitution and the Ten Commandments, and refer to people who love and uphold them as “deplorables”, as “separatists”, “extremists” or even incipient terrorists.
For you to assert your rights as being beyond the authority and scope of government, you are personally insulting those in power. It’s a most egregious insult too, because it directly attacks their authority. You’re calling them frauds, liars and usurpers merely by asserting your rights. And, well, that’s because they are frauds, liars and usurpers. There can be no sugar coating it.
And THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is the rub. It is a competition for god status. You can’t get around it and you can’t re-frame it.
Authoritarians are extremely dangerous people, but once you know the disease, the nature of the beast, it becomes fairly easily recognized.
