Interesting times

I’ve been told by someone who should know:

there aren’t any people working in the ATF licensing center (except one person from management) until after the shutdown-furlough.

Interesting. What happens to businesses with FFLs? My guess is that if their license expires, even though they attempted to renew in a timely manner, then they have to stop selling firearms. At what point would such a requirement be an infringement upon the right of the people to keep and bear arms?

NICS is supposedly up. But there are going to be some FFLs with a deadline rapidly approaching.

Interesting times.

  1. The default setting for any law the “government” passes should be that it is null and void, if they cannot keep up their end of the bargain.

That’s why NICS has the time-limit rule to proceed, specifically because some antagonistic administration decides to play possum and not do it’s job.

It should be the same way with registration and licenses. They remain fully in effect and without any penalty in these situations. Sorry, I know, I’m being far to rational.

Newsflash…..99+% of those in Mordor On the Potomac ( and most state capitals) don’t give a red rats ass about our rights and don’t care if they are infringed upon….with many WANTING to infringe them.

  4. Context: we have a right to a speedy and public trial. Innocent indigents have languished in jail for more than a year awaiting trial. FOIA has a 20-business day deadline – but courts decline to enforce black letter law, letting agencies stonewall for years if they want.

Federal government is going to argue that the length of the delay due to a partial shutdown is ‘reasonable’, regardless of how many weeks, months, or years it goes on.

    • Given that courts usually ignore the blackest letter of them all — the US Constitution — the fact that they ignore inferior law is hardly surprising.

It would be a good thing if the bulk of them were impeached for perjury and jailed for a long time for that offense.
