Quote of the day—Michael Crichton

I have been asked to talk about what I consider the most important challenge facing mankind, and I have a fundamental answer. The greatest challenge facing mankind is the challenge of distinguishing reality from fantasy, truth from propaganda. Perceiving the truth has always been a challenge to mankind, but in the information age (or as I think of it, the disinformation age) it takes on a special urgency and importance.

Crichton: Environmentalism is a religion
[Or as I sometimes say, truth and falsity.

It’s critical, and extremely difficult, in all things. I see it most often in the fight to preserve our right to keep and bear arms.—Joe]

  1. Surely you can see the gaping hole in the post;
    The quote does not address the question of whether truth is desired, or if the desire is to avoid it. A great challenge for some people is in finding the truth, and then, likewise, acting according to the truth. For others, the greatest challenge is in how best to malign, corrupt, and otherwise alter the truth, or in avoiding it altogether, and then, likewise, acting according to some alternate “truth”, or avoiding the subject of truth altogether.

    Jesus of course had this to say on the matter (so why should I bother to reiterate it?);
    ——–
    And this is the condemnation, that light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
    ———

    And so again, it’s a binary choice; of allegiance.
