Quote of the day—Harvey Milk

It takes no compromising to give people their rights. It takes no money to respect the individual. It takes no survey to remove repressions.

Harvey Milk
Sometime prior to November 27, 1978
[The previous talk of compromise made me think this was an appropriate time to bring this up.

Milk was thinking of rights other than the right to keep and bear arms but it applies to all true rights. His words resonate well with some people who think of us as the enemy. Use them to your advantage.—Joe]

  1. Should be “It takes no compromising for people to keep their rights. …”

    Still getting it wrong after all these years.

    • I’ll have to fix that for you;
      True rights can not possibly be “given” nor taken away. They can only be either violated or respected, forgotten or acknowledged, but we all have them at all times and in all places.

  2. I would add;

    “It takes no government program, no public works project, no committee, no panel of ‘experts’, no special council, and no additional law, to stand aside, let freedom ring and let prosperity cover the land.”

    But of course wide-spread prosperity and freedom are not the objectives. Those things occur to the horror of the authoritarian mind. The loser mentality wants to frustrate productivity and stifle freedom, and to exercise a false “authority”. It wants the golden palace/temple/fortress, the colored robes, the triple crown. It wants universal adoration, and at the same time (contradictorily) all the stagnating, bureaucratic, societal sclerosis can get.

    It is the mind of Cain, of Herod, and of Rome. It’s Babylon, and it will sow the seeds of its own annihilation any time it’s allowed, so long as it can, in its arrogance and pride, in its sense of victimhood, its jealousy, envy and hatred, take the rest of us down with it.

    And there’s nothing we can do about it but, as the saying goes, “Get out of her, my People.”
