Gun control group targets firearms owners with new ads, seeks common ground
[It’s an “interesting” choice of words. In the video they say, “8 kids a day are accidently killed or injured by FAMILY FIRE”. So, one has to conclude they mean that someone obtained access to an improperly stored gun then a “kid” was killed or injured with that gun.
Let’s look at the numbers from the most recent data from CDC (2016 fatal and non-fatal unintentional injuries) by age:

- A person 14 years and under. A “child” should be distinguished from a “minor” who is anyone under 18 in almost all states.
These numbers include all accidental firearm related injuries and deaths. Not just those “involving an improperly stored gun”. Hence it must be that, if their definitions of “FAMILY FIRE” and “accidently” means “unintentional” then they had to include people even older than 19 in their definition of “kid”.
They have a long history of lies and deception. It is part of their culture. This appears to be yet another example.
That said, it is a worthy goal to reduce injuries and deaths of innocent people. And as presented in the article and in their video they appear to be proposing an educational approach rather than a government mandate. I’m okay with an educational approach as long as they are factual. Using what appears to be a child in the range of six to eight when they must be including those in the range of 20 or 21 is deliberate deception.
If they really wanted to “seek common ground” with me then they must knock off the deliberate lies. And a better approach than “public service announcements facilitated by the Ad Council” would be to target gun owners in stores and at ranges with suggestions for safe storage.
But watching the video it’s clear that is not their objective. It is much more likely this is a campaign to encourage people to not have guns in their homes and/or the first wave of a campaign for mandatory gun storage.
Don’t let your friends and family be fooled by these liars. If someone mentions this ad to you then tell them they have been lied to.—Joe]
The most effective liar always appears genuine.
It’s difficult to criticize something so monumentally successful. Lying and coercion is a multi-trillion dollar industry. Attempts to convince them to give it up simply because it’s wrong will almost certainly fail.
It could become common knowledge that they’ve made a career out of lying for the purpose of denying a human right, they won’t stop. Nor will their dupes abandon them. “They may have exaggerated” goes the already standard reply, “but they did it for a good cause…”
Meanwhile, is your chainsaw in a locked safe, stored separately from the fuel? How about dangerous household chemicals? Do you store your automobile separate from the fuel? Are your matches and lighters, flint, tinder and steel locked up? Why, just look at the fires raging in the western U.S. This very moment and tell me it’s not a serious issue?
Even we gun owners fall for the lies, see?. We tend to have safes for our guns but not for any of that other deadly stuff, and we do it ONLY because of the lying authoritarians. We spend large sums to lock up those guns, while our deadly kitchen knives are displayed in such a manner as to provide the easiest possible access to any passer-by. We casually toss our car keys on counters or other readily accessible places, but lock up the guns. WE ACTUALLY THINK WE’RE BEING LOGICAL when we behave this way, but it’s purely out of fear of reprisals.
Many will say they have their own, good reasons for keeping their guns in a safe, but they’re lying, even lying to themselves. They’ll feel like attacking me for even saying this. They do it because they’ve been intimidated by authoritarians (those “stupid”, “idiot”, lying authoritarians we like to make fun of), because they know how difficult their lives can be made if they don’t comply. In that sense we’ve already lost.
And WE point fingers of blame, trying to shame, the lying authoritarians? They have us lying to ourselves and each other, so who’s got the upper hand?
When I have a toddler in the house I put locks on the cabinets with harsh chemicals and breakable items. Knives are moved away from the edge of the counter. The toilet lid is always down when not in use. Depending on the toddler there may also be a gate on the stairs. The car keys are in my pocket and the spares are out of their reach (we had a terrible time finding the set of keys our oldest put in the cat litter box when she was two years old). Matches are kept on a high shelf out of reach. I doubt a toddler can operate the fireplace lighter the safety and trigger sometimes even confound adults for a few seconds and it requires a fair amount of strength to operate. The chainsaw can’t be started by anyone under the age of 10 or so. But it is locked in the garden shed.
And… I make sure all guns not on my person are locked up.

If people would prevent baby goats from prowling, unsupervised through their homes, these tragedies could be averted.
I blame the ivy growers.
Amusing that they are patting themselves on the back so hard for “Saving Kids”, but really the underlying message is “Don’t Buy a Gun”, which if you’re an anti-gun person following the Brady Campaign, big win there.
If you’re the average gun owner living in this current climate the only appropriate response is “Fuck You!”
But I spent some time digging, and on a few pages that weren’t easy to reach, I found a few bullet points deep on a text-saturated page that say “Lock up guns, and store ammunition separately”.
No links to buy locks, safes, or other storage solutions. And really safe storage appears to be a total after-thought.
And meanwhile, it does NOTHING for kids who encounter a gun. Eddie Eagle encourages safe responsible storage, AND teaches kids how to be safe around firearms in the event somebody isn’t as responsible as I am, or mistakes are made.
Project Child Safe (that they reference in some of their propiganda, but don’t supply any direct links) actually GIVES AWAY gun locks (and because so many cops just stuffed locks in my hands as I did gun business, I’ve given away dozens of gun locks to people who needed them).
This is abstinence-only education.
It is one thing to just run ads, but quite another to pass new laws to add new liabilities to gun ownership that require you to lock up your guns (Washington State I-1639). They don’t care about the details. Even if there were no accidental deaths they would still argue that it is possible as long as people have guns. Logic and details are not going to convince them otherwise.
It should be pointed out that Hollywood, and the other leftist agitator media, have, methodically, consistently and over many years, turned guns into objects of extreme fascination and criminal connotation especially among young and impressionable minds. You see a gun in a movie, someone’s going to get shot, AND it will be exciting and entertaining such that you will line up and pay to see more.
Further, it should be noted that “gun violence” is most prevalent within leftist enclaves where leftist policies prevail.
So who really cares about “safety” after all, and who are the screaming hypocrites?
