The only legitimate poll of NRA members ever done was a national scientific survey commissioned by NRA. It surveyed 1,000 randomly-selected NRA members across the country and found that NRA members are united on today’s issues.
- 92 percent oppose banning the sale of firearms between private citizens.
- 92 percent oppose background checks on the sale of firearms between private citizens.
- 89 percent oppose banning so-called “assault weapons.”
- 93 percent oppose gun registration.
- 91 percent SUPPORT laws to keep guns out of the hands of people with mental illnesses.
As usual, the anti-gun people are lying when they say NRA members support universal background checks and “assault weapon” bans.

The lying has been going on long before Clinton was president. Read The Gun Rights War by Neal Knox. In 1987 he wrote of an example which had been ongoing for years then. It’s part of their culture.
It’s been going on since language was invented.
I’m not aware of anyone in my lifetime who made it a prominant way of life the way Slick Willie did. He was very, very effective at it, and we saw it because modern media and the Intertubes put it in our faces so much.
His (*ahem*) wife is a habitual, pathological liar, but a lousy liar who doesn’t know it and won’t learn from her failures at it. She is a textbook example of the Dunning-Kruger Effect.
I was referring to the history of lying about rights of gun owners, not lying in general.

Actually, the phenomena might be easier explained by people lying to polling agencies. Democrat pollsters were calling almost daily during the last election. They were incessant. Incessant that is until you identified yourself to the pollster as a Democrat completely supporting the Democratic platform. When I mentioned this to a co-worker, I discovered that he identified himself to pollsters as a 24 year old black lesbian who like totally supported the Democrats and Hillary Clinton. I’ve often wondered if the Clinton campaign was defeated by bad data.
By the same measure, I would never identify as a gun owner to some unknown pollster. I’ll happily tell them I support overturning the second amendment and banning all guns. The idiots believe this because this is what they believe and they are sure that no one would lie to a polling agency. Right?
That looks like a very clear mandate for the NRA leadership. Keep fighting.
How many NRA members support the immediate and total repeal of every firearms law in the US?
It must be less than 9 percent because “91 percent SUPPORT laws to keep guns out of the hands of people with mental illnesses.”
And by the way, there is zero clinical psychology evidence that indicates people with mental illnesses have a higher propensity toward violence. They don’t. Let’s see, who was it that started using mental illness for political purposes? Oh yeah, it was the Nazis.
Yeah, the “mental illness” thing is possibly our Achilles Heel. If the antis are smart, they’ll focus on that. If the majority of gun owners support it, some legislation or other will be passed, and then it’s all over– “If you want a gun, you’re crazy, and therefore you cannot have a gun. QED”
Anyone on, or who was ever on, psycho meds, or who ever saw a counselor, and that’s a huge number of Americans, and any veteran ever diagnosed with PTSD, will be denied, and that’s just the starting point. It will cascade from there. Just you watch.
BUT; it could in theory result in the biggest boon to the NRA in history, so there’s that.
The controversy on Gun Rights doesn’t’ really have much to do with the Second Amendment; it has more to do with the politicizing of the issue by anti-gun authors who usually publish articles in websites and newspapers which are already anti-Second Amendment.
Gun owners tend to publish on gun magazines (etc) … the other people publish articles on whatever places which support their contra-views.
Mentally ill people are not really an issue; their views are rarely logical nor cogent; not that anyone solicits their opinions, other than the anti-gun people.
I’m kinda worried about the 8 ~ 11 % that *supported* the items listed.
