Quote of the day—Jim N. Taylor

If we wiped out the ATF agency tomorrow, we would all sleep more soundly the next night, and our tax burden would decrease a bit. If we limited our fears to what is rational, most of government would disappear.

  1. Unfortunately, expecting our tax burden to decrease because we happened to eliminate a government agency is irrational. The politicians will simply find something else to spend it on, and probably hire most of the same people to do it.

    • Pretty much. Predators gonna prey, looters gonna loot, and it scarcely matters to them which alphabet banner, or which pretenses, they do it under.

  2. Until we repeal GCA’68, NFA’34 et.al I want the screwups of f-troop to be the ones doing the ‘enforcement’.

    • I think of a line from the old Walter Matthau movie, “Hopscotch”:
“What was I supposed to do, ‘terminate’ him? If I ‘terminated’ him, it would take us three months to find out who his replacement was, and another six months to figure out his patterns.”
Bad things happen now and then, but the BATF-men are a known quantity.

      • Why would we need a replacement for the gun and cigarette tax police? That agency has no legitimate purpose, and so therefore quality is irrelevant.

  3. Manufacturers of jackboots and ski masks might have a few sleepless nights worrying about their sales numbers if the BATFE were disbanded. That’s about it. We don’t need special gun and cigarette tax police. What a colossal waste of tax money.
