One of the strategic weaknesses of conservatives (and I use the term advisedly for people like Ryan), is they care more about national security and foreign affairs than they do about domestic policy. This was quite evident in the tradeoffs made in the Omnibus. Meanwhile, leftists use this relative inattention to domestic policy to continue their long march through the institutions and consolidate their power. Which they then use to undermine any accomplishments of conservatives in foreign policy and national security.

    • I’d put it more bluntly. A key strategic weakness of conservatives is that they (with maybe just one or two exceptions) don’t know or care about the Constitution. While they aren’t blatant Constitution-haters and Constitution-stompers as progressives are, they certainly show no particular interest in obeying their oath of office or the supreme law of the land.
      This problem appears not just in Congress; it’s just as much in evidence in the other branches.

      • That is because the schools do a horrible job at educating young minds about the constitution, the law, history, and human psychology. And I’m increasingly of the opinion that it’s not an accident.

      • I agree with the point about education. When the subject is politicians, though, you normally deal with lawyers, who are supposed to have some understanding of the Constitution. But they don’t. They certainly don’t obey it, and some of their utterances suggest they have never read it let alone understood it.
        This is of course rather strange, given that they swear an oath of office promising to protect and defend the Constitution. But not all that strange because in fact they have no desire or intent to keep that oath. And that, of course, makes them criminals no matter what else they ever do.

  2. You all speak about “inattention”, “strategic weakness” and doing a “horrible job” as though the people you vote for are actually on your side and not playing you for the other side, or that the job of public schools is to educate kids for the sake of the kids.

    Interesting.

    Ask yourself this;
    What would it actually take for you to call evil by its name? If a lifetime of lies, abuse and hypocrisy isn’t enough, I have to wonder whether there’s any way to get through your incredulity to the truth.

    Yuri Bezmenov (who helped run these kinds of operations for the KGB) did mention this, that people would never never admit the truth of what was being done to them until there was literally a boot up their asses, and even then they’d be in a state of disbelief.

    Knowing it from history, or seeing it from afar is one thing, but to see it in action even among your friends is something else. It’s probably the most depressing part of it.

    Here we have an admission of guilt in a federal crime, and we’re talking about “tactical weakness” on our side. Watch how completely the “pro gun” organizations fail to even suggest that anyone push for prosecution. They have millions of dollars, and a multi-million dollar museum near Washngton DC, but suggest that they lobby for prosecutions of the actual offenders? Never. Absolutely, positively, never.

    So we will, for sure and for certain, go over the cliff as we talk about “tactical mistakes”, “strategic weakness” and doing a poor job, and we will crash into the rocks below, thinking, “how could this happen?”

    • You’re dead right, and both wings of the bi-factional ruling party are now desperate to disarm the populace STAT because they know the national debt bomb is about to rip this country apart, and they don’t want to end up swinging from lamp posts.
