Quote of the day—Andrew Mark Miller

Sadly, liberals don’t care about stopping violent crime.  They care about their own rabid ideology.

One of many examples where liberals are actually hurting the people they think they are protecting with their reckless ideas.

Gun Control Study: Carry Permits Up 190%, Violent Crime Down 18%
[Perhaps the masses of “useful idiot” progressives think they are “protecting” people. At the top levels they know better. They are in it for the power. Guns and the truth are power. Stalin knew this and knew the masses must not have guns or ideas of their own. The high level progressives know this too. The data is so overwhelming that have to know it. That they say things like “fake but accurate” with complete sincerity and even after getting caught can’t understand why they should get fired or even apologize is proof they care far more about their rabid ideology and power than the truth and what is best for the people in general.—Joe]

  1. More guns, less crime was convincingly demonstrated by John Lott many years ago. It’s not surprising the demonstration has to be repeated over and over again, given that there are people around whose #1 goal is to pretend the truth is otherwise.
Not quite the same subject but somewhat related is this news item: http://www.npr.org/2017/07/20/537243392/gop-effort-to-make-environmental-science-transparent-worries-scientists — I’m reminded of the fact that Lott made all his data available as a matter of course because he’s a scientist, while fake scientists of the Left continue to treat “data” as a deep secret. As the man said: “what are they hiding?”

  2. I’m a fan of concealed carry and do so when visiting major cities.
I really doubt that CC has anything to do with violent crime going down. Most of that crime is by and against ghetto rats and gangs doing each other. Neither is likely to get a permit. Most of these perps. are too stupid to think beyond the next unthinking act. Fact of the matter is outside of the inner cities the US is safer than most any place on earth.
I would think that Planned Parenthood has more to do with lowering the crime rate. They work the inner cities very hard, as their founder wanted, and millions of criminals were never born.

    • “I really doubt that CC has anything to do with violent crime going down.”

Maybe not CC per se, but an armed populace definitely reduces violent crime. This has been demonstrated many times over.

Not that it’s the key issue; liberty is the key issue. It is not the business of government to decide how best to “reduce crime”.

It is the business of government to defend and protect human rights. This is done by retaliating, after the fact, against human rights violations, and has nothing to do with outcomes otherwise.

So you ascribe to Eugenics, apparently, and think, as Margaret Sanger did, that black people are “unfit”. I do not. I despise that way of thinking. Eugenics is a spin-off of Progressive Marxism, and was later adopted by the Nazis (in their own way). Margaret Sanger, Woodrow Wilson, the Democrat Party and the KKK were all very good friends.

Criminals are not born. They are made. Criminals are made primarily by Leftists. Leftists tend to own (politically speaking at least) the large inner cities, and they own the public schools and university departments of education, AND they oppose school choice. Figure it out.

Don’t be a racist fuck. If we could reach a significant number of the now Democrat-voting, urban American black welfare cases who’ve been used and abused by the Democrat Party since the Civil War of the 1860s, and bring them the truth, they’d end up being some the most dedicated and effective defenders of liberty. Star Parker is a case in point, and there are many others.

      • I didn’t read USexpat as racist. I read him as calling out racist leftists which the eugenics movement surely is.

      • I don’t carry, especially not in Chicago. Too risky. But I am aware of where I’m going, and when, and what neighborhoods I’m going through to get there. Especially when I’m going by bicycle. Some places are okay any time, some are okay in broad daylight, and some are no-go zones (although even most of those are probably okay in the early morning, say around 5 or 6 AM).

I am also aware that it helps to be a man, carrying himself with just enough confidence, ever so slightly wary, not too old, and weighing 200-some lbs. There are softer targets out there.

Don’t want to be a target? Don’t look like one, don’t act like one, don’t do stupid things in stupid places at stupid times, and keep your wits about you. That will get you surprisingly far without a gun. But just because you don’t/shouldn’t “need” one, doesn’t mean you always won’t or that others won’t in the same situation.

        • I actually sold off all of my guns when I found out I would be moving to the metro area, because I didn’t know where I would be living yet, and some places are a bit tricky, legally speaking, in that regard.

          • Last time I had to get a FOID card the 30 day statutory deadline for them to issue it came and went, and I had to get my state senator on the case. I got it a couple weeks later.

You’re fine as a non-resident with an out of state license and no FOID. As soon as you get an IL DL, though, you are technically not legal until you get the FOID–which you can’t apply for until you get your DL.

So, I got my license after about 3 trips for additional documentation, etc. I copy down the number onto the FOID application, which was already prepared except for that, and drop it in the mail to Springfield on my way home. I got home, and as I showed my new license to my mother I saw that my gender had suddenly been changed. So, back to the DMV I went for trip no. 4. Got it fixed, but now had a new license number–but my FOID application was already in the mail!

Such a nightmare, very glad to be living on the Indiana side. But since I work in IL and they don’t have a tax compact anymore, guess what? My state taxes go to Springfield, and I can’t even vote on them. And they just went up, wiping out my latest raise and then some! The state is a financial disaster, has been for some time, and shows no signs of improving.

    • If you really doubt that CC has no connection to violent crime going down, you might benefit from reading John Lott’s book. Or read about the jailhouse interview (it might be in that book, I forgot) with the Florida robbers who preyed on tourists there some years ago. They were asked “why tourists” and answered “because they are unlikely to be armed”.
Yes, thugs are stupid, but they do apply what little brains they have to self-preservation. So they do know a bit about risks and how to avoid them. This is why they respond to laws facilitating gun ownership and carry.

  3. Gun control is NOT about reducing gun violence. Stop listening to what they say bc they are lying. Look at what it does. Empowers criminals (who then vote for them) and pushes away republicans (who wouldn’t vote for them). Gun control is about keeping democrats in office. It’s just gerrymandering done with laws.
