Quote of the day—Lamar Smith

The Committee concludes that the DOE placed its own priorities to further the President’s Climate Action Plan before its Constitutional obligations to be candid with Congress. The DOE’s actions constitute a reckless and calculated attack on the legislative process itself, which undermines the power of Congress to legislate. The Committee further concludes that DOE’s disregard for separation of powers is not limited to a small group of employees, but rather is an institutional problem that must be corrected by overhauling its management practices with respect to its relationship with the Congress.

  1. The best solution for the management problems of the Department of Energy is to reduce that department to its Constitutional size: zero.

    • That questionnaire that went out was a start. Somebody knew exactly how to get to the meat of what programs and positions weren’t authorized by statute and could immediately get the ax. Hopefully things can go from there.

      • Maybe. But if you start out with the assumption that a valid statue (one permitted by the Constitution) can authorize anything the DOE does, you’re already way off base. It’s not clear how you get from such a mistaken position to the correct one.

        • Think you’re taking what I said in a completely wrong direction. The non-statute authorized stuff is the low hanging fruit. Remember, you and I know what DOE does isn’t constitutional, but you’ve got to convince everyone else of that unless you want a gigantic fight that you’ll probably lose.

        • It looked like that person was looking to start with the easy stuff. Which is fine–if it pans out, even the easy stuff is 110% more than what we could expect from literally any other president ever, even Ronaldus of Reagan (PBUH).

*Except for Ron Paul, but he was never going to be allowed to become president.

  2. “The DOE’s actions constitute a reckless and calculated attack on the legislative process itself, which undermines the power of Congress to legislate.”

They’re doing their job exactly as intended then.

This is what I fail to understand. An extra-constitutional department or bureau is designed for the purpose of undermining the constitution and the legislative process and all the rest, and when they DO THEIR JOB we pretend to be surprised and outraged.

    Hah, hah… hah.

So how does this work; are we all expected to pretend that the pretending isn’t pretending? Are we supposed to actually believe that we’re witnessing genuine outrage over the fact that a Progressive, anti-American institution is actually being Progressively anti-American? Are we supposed to pretend to take the pundits seriously when they pretend to be outraged when we know they aren’t?

For that kind of acting I’d expect to be paid handsomely.

I for one will not pretend to believe that any of this horseshit is anything but a dog and point show. Bread and circuses, if you will, to keep the stupid masses enthralled.

    • It’s a start. I won’t let perfect become the enemy of good. Having said that, I agree that it is exceedingly important to keep our eyes on the ultimate prize, which is pretty much what you are saying.

    • The word you are looking for is “kabuki.” But suddenly we have someone on stage that isn’t part of the regularly scheduled program, so there is a chance that the stunt doubles are not willing to step in because they are afraid this time the fake swords and fake blood… are not fake.

  3. Here are the right words;
    “Culture of Denial”

“Culture of denial” is of course another way of saying “mass insanity”. We invite large numbers of Moslem men into the country, and then pretend to be surprised when they blow us up or otherwise do what they very clearly told us they were going to do.

Furthermore, anyone who fails to pretend along with the other pretenders is going to be attacked. It is to the point where the truth is more of an enemy than a million sworn enemies who have declared, and are fighting, a war against us.

It’s the same with these government departments and bureaus, which we must pretend were not specifically designed to undermine our constitutional, libertarian republic. Exactly the same, and so, for our failure to stop the goddamned pretending, we deserve what’s coming.

As I keep saying, we’re living in a Lord of The Flies world, wherein the adults have taken to playing along with the children and no one is taking care of business. What the fuck do you EXPECT will happen?

  4. Lyle: Furthermore, anyone who fails to pretend along with the other pretenders is going to be attacked. It is to the point where the truth is more of an enemy than a million sworn enemies who have declared, and are fighting, a war against us.

Or, as someone else put it, “In an age of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” [commonly attributed to George Orwell, but probably not actually written by him]

  5. Gonna charge ’em with “lying to Congress”? I mean, they’ve charged others for lesser lies.
