Since the election I have cried many times, in the shower, in the car, as the conventions that define liberal Western democracy are stripped away by Donald J. Trump, with every distressful appointment, each impulsive outburst. I have embarrassment of grief for a government that is not mine and for a country that does not belong to me. It feels as if we’re mourning the death of an idea called America.

Dear America, Why Did You Let Us Down?
[While none of the political parties really offer a path to what I think of as the “idea called America” it would have been worse had Hillary Clinton been elected.
My hypothesis is that Ms. Pryor doesn’t really understand is that the true “idea called America” is well explained in the Constitution and she has some dramatically different concept of what the idea is. Perhaps Ms. Pryor would benefit from an introduction to the concept that feelings do not necessarily reflect reality.—Joe]
How about rule of law over rule of man? (i.e. EOs, non-recess appointments, not implementing laws and making regulations out of thin air without legislative support)
We are not a “liberal Western democracy”; instead we are a “Constitutional Republic” so I can see the reason for her confusion.
We were at least marginally aligned with the “idea of America” until her Democrat party decided that “fundamental transformation” was in order, which means leaving that idea behind in favor of “socialist Amerika”. I hope she cries every day until she dies. Miserable, evil America-hating Leftist.
Sounds familiar, my wife is a member of a mommy blog/forum and some of those women are showing a lot of mental disorders with this election. They need some kind of help in a big way.
Operative words: “A country that does not belong to me…” Like most liberal twits, she doesn’t feel any desire or obligation to take her part in a bigger thing – she wants to rule. Whatever happened to “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.”?
By the 2008 election, it became “Ask not what your country can do for you, demand it!”
Yes, what Ms. Pryor is lamenting is the loss (permanent, I hope) of the United Soviet States of Amerika. She has no idea of the constitutional republic that once was America.
Just imagine how she’ll feel when one of her cats dies?

A blithering idiot suffering from her own, willful ignorance. “Willful” because is a chosen, carefully maintained ignorance. As you say, Joe, she could have taken a peek at the Constitution any time, and also the Declaration, which lays out the actual case for America and is therefore better defined as our founding document.
The other glaring avoidance of reality is the idea that one man can reverse and then permanently overthrow her precious Marxist-American movement. At best, Trump will slow it down for a few years, but it’ll keep right on growing until we get serious about throwing off the Progressives, cronies, socialists, et al authoritarians, permanently. Trump is at heart a Progressive and so he wouldn’t know how, or where, to look to find out how. Anyone who believes that Trump is any sort of constitutional scholar motivated by love for the original American Principles of Liberty is a bloody fucking fool. It’s a nice fantasy, with no evidence to back it up. Trump would have need to find out what those principles are before he could decide whether or not he cares about them, or rather, which parts he would re-write in his image.
I suppose that if you’re a communist who therefore hates America (and by “America” should I REALLY have to say “the founding American Principles of Liberty”? Hell no, I shouldn’t) you’d be a little disappointed by Trump’s victory, but in fact there is just as much reason for the communists, and especially the Progressive communists, to be singing “Happy Days Are Here Again” as there is cause for real Americans to be ecstatic. Your Progressive movement toward communism NEEDS people like Trump to help move the Overton Window in your direction. That’s been the function of the Republican Party for over 100 years. Democrats should love them, but for the fact that they need the show of opposition to make this “Good Cop/Bad Cop” charade work.
Honestly I think a lot of this leftist angst over Trump is manufactured solely for that propose. It’s a major feature of the Progressive play book. Besides, it seems like I’m one of only a few who seem to remember the 1980 election and the same, identical hand-wringing, fear, sadness and all the rest over the election of Reagan. And then the national budget doubled. They always get what they want even when they (eh hem) “lose”. They just have to pretend that they’re not getting it once in a while, to give us fucking dunces a chance to re-adjust our tolerance range in preparation for the next Progressive push. After that, we’ll holler and complain, and then we’ll tolerate some more. Lather, Rinse, Repeat.
The spent 40 years pissing on “Democrat Light” republicans who were happy to go along to get along to the point they got someone who really DGAF and will do WTF ever he wants. And curiously, my auto spellchecker recognizes Bolsheviks but not Mensheviks as correctly spelled. Stalin really did win.
She is a Ozzie, so how could she have any idea what America is beyond what she sees in the MSM?? She may watch America but their fundamental culture (tall poppies get cut down, etc.) is so different from ours it isn’t a surprise she is disoriented by DJT’s “unexpected” victory.
