Ballistic fart

For something more gun-related and lighter, I present the “ballistic fart.”

High speed footage of a 44 mag bullet striking ballistic gelatin. Has a good explanation, too.

  1. I wonder what that flash comes from. Partially oxidized gases from the powder, like CO?

  2. Lovely images. I believe the dieseling explanation, but I’ve seen similar flashes in slo-mo photography of underwater gun shots. I believe the collapsing bubble creates very high pressure and temperatures. A while back there was even talk of cavitation induced fusion.

  4. “I know what you’re thinking. “Did he fire six shots or only five?” Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and can convert a block of ballistic gelatin into a one-shot goddam diesel engine, you’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Do I feel lucky?” Well, do ya, punk?”
