Email leaks: Hillary on guns

If you ever had any doubt about Hillary Clintons intentions toward gun ownership the most recent email leaks should remove all doubt:

Of particular note is an October 4, 2015 email written by Clinton campaign press secretary Brian Fallon, which detailed the campaign’s intent to share with reporters the types of gun control proposals a President Clinton would support. The email stated:

Circling back around on guns as a follow up to the Friday morning discussion: the Today show has indicated they definitely plan to ask bout guns, and so to have the discussion be more of a news event than her previous times discussing guns, we are going to background reporters tonight on a few of the specific proposals she would support as President – universal background checks of course, but also closing the gun show loophole by executive order and imposing manufacturer liability.

Note that, in her mind, no legislative action is required. Stroke of the pen, rule of law as was said during the first Clinton presidency.

I also find it “interesting” how the media works with Hillary Clinton in preparation for their encounters. It’s all orchestrated. There are no surprises or challenges to her position. Glenn Reynolds says, “Just think of the MSM as Democratic operatives with bylines, and it all makes sense.”

    • Well… Last week a gun owner at work told me he didn’t believe Hillary would do much if anything in regards to guns. He thinks she just says things like that to get elected but doesn’t really care one way or the other about guns.

This post was specifically for him.

      • More generally, it’s for anyone who thinks it is reasonable to be a gun owner and vote Democrat.

It’s unfortunate that the NRA will not make that point in so many words.

  2. The big deal here is not the bolded part, but the one after. Imposing liability on manufacturers — she’s talking about erasing the Lawful Commerce act. The intent is obvious: if gun manufacturers are forced out of business, there won’t be any new guns to buy. Next step would be to apply the same treatment to ammo makers.

There’s a solution for this, which gun makers should adopt: cancel their liability insurance. (Well, with the exception of “slip and fall” stuff for their facilities.) And change their official corporate name to something like “The Uninsured Colt Corporation”. This approach has been used for many years in the skydiving equipment industry (see for example http://www.unitedparachutetechnologies.com, it’s right there at the bottom of the page), and has worked quite well. Lawyers aren’t interested in suing people who don’t have deep pockets; suing an uninsured company might end up making you the new owner if you win, which isn’t all that much fun.
