Millennial poll: 2nd Amendment no obstacle to gun control:
A new poll by the University of Chicago finds that Millennials have a strong preference for gun control, even supporting a proposed ban on semi-automatic weapons.
The survey—which was conducted by GenForward, part of the University of Chicago’s Black Youth Project, in conjunction with the NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, a nonpartisan social science research organization—polled 1,940 young Americans ages 18 to 30 and revealed that that 57 percent of Millennials approve of banning people from purchasing semi-automatic weapons.
This is the part that is really scary to me:
…over half of those surveyed said they believe that Second Amendment rights can be compromised in order to support greater gun control.
Perhaps the the Nineteenth Amendment should be compromised to support greater voter control. Compromising the Second Amendment is no less repugnant.

It’s estimated that nearly 70% of the guns in circulation (and even a higher percentage of those sold) are semi-automatic. 57 percent of Millennials support banning 70% of the currently owned guns and the vast majority of those currently legally sold?
But most importantly, don’t ever let anyone get away with telling you that no one wants to take your guns.
Not only are most guns semi-auto, but essentially all handguns are.
The notion that “…Second Amendment rights can be compromised in order to support greater gun control” is not unique to millennials. It is also widely held, not just for the 2nd amendment but for the entire Constitution, by judges and justices. If anything, much more widely than among millennials. After all, have you ever heard a judge argue against the rule of “scrutiny” and say that “shall make no law” means exactly what those plain English words say?
Given that it is millennials aching for gun control, perhaps the Twenty-Sixth Amendment is the one to compromise.
You’ll have to fill us in on the content of this Twenty-Sixty amendment thingy. Apparently there are secret amendments?

I can assure you that not all millennials want to ban guns.
I would expect any poll done out of the U of C to conclude that Progressivism is trending.
One of the plays in the short playbook of Marxism is to attempt to make those who believe in liberty feel hopelessly outnumbered.
I first fully realized this during the run-up to the vote on WA State I-676. They put up a huge list of the beautiful people who supported what would have been a total ban on all types of weapons, next to a pathetic, short list of dummies, fools and freaks who opposed the ban. I-676 was defeated, 69 to 41.
I’ll never forget that experience, nor should you.
Anyway, the Bill of Rights exists specifically to protect human rights from the tyranny of the majority. Since your rights were not given you by Man, they cannot be repealed by Man. Man can either respect your rights or violate them, but cannot create them or destroy them.
So, 110% of the people voted in that election?

I can only imagine the howls of indignation if the First Amendment were to ever be exposed to such — as the Second Amendment has been.
It really makes a difference as to whose ox is being gored (or “Obamaed”, I suppose).
Don’t be too optimistic about the 1st amendment. It too is under attack. Speech codes, “we need some muscle here”, safe zones, the notion of “hate crimes”, etc. Neil Smith points out that a lot of media people think the 1st amendment only applies to them (and also that there aren’t any other amendments). Consider the intense left wing propaganda campaign aimed at “fixing” the Citizens United decision. Hillary’s proposed fix is amending the 1st amendment. Her goal clearly is to move us to the “no free speech” situation that holds in the rest of the world.

I’m hearing this kind of language every day now, and I’m embarrassed for those who use it.
BE NOT AFRAID! We’re not a bunch of quivering, frightened little snowflakes, helplessly awaiting the hammer-fall of doom. We are men. Let the authoritarians shake in their boots with fear, let them be frustrated and angry and envious. That’s their role– it is just that they do so. We’re better than that.
Dare I say to an atheist; Have a little faith? If you reject that, then at least you can see that a grinding fear does you no good, and that the cool head prevails. If you reject faith, then pray for a cool head…
And if you’re not really afraid, then don’t say you’re afraid.
It’s not a quivering, frightened type of fear. It’s that of great disruption of, mostly, civil life. It’s of fighting a fight I don’t want to fight. It’s a distraction from those things which I really want to do.
It’s a sort of a fear that it won’t happen in my day, but in the day of my nieces and nephew, when they should have their own lives to lead. There’s a line in the 1939 Four Feathers by the old General Faversham, hero of the Crimean War, “I’m too old and the boy’s too young”
(of course the same might have been said in my youth, too, as well as the sentence before this, “First time there isn’t a Wilson in the Military, and look at the mess the country’s in”).
Since our political “Betters” seem insistent on handing us a pile of steaming — sandwich, I’d rather it have been for us to handle and not the next generation, but this is how the deal is going down, so here we are.

Actually, compromising the Second Amendment is _considerably_ more repugnant. Unlike the right to arms, there isn’t a natural right to vote — no matter what your age or gender.
