Quote of the day—Louis Pasteur

The greatest derangement of the mind is to believe in something because one wishes it to be so.

Louis Pasteur
[I can’t disagree with the conclusion. But I fear that particular derangement of the mind is so common that one would be hard pressed to prove it was abnormal. Hence my placing it in such a wide variety of blog post categories.—Joe]

  1. “But I fear that particular derangement of the mind is so common that one would be hard pressed to prove it was abnormal.”

Abnormal? It is the exception to it that is so uncommon as to be abnormal.

  2. I think that is one of the best QOTD that you’ve ever posted. It applies to almost everything and everyone.

    • Thanks.

Considering there are currently 4,005 QOTDs that is saying a lot.

I think I could find something I like better but I can’t think of one off the top of my head.

      • I had never heard that quote before, and thanks for posting it.

Oddly enough, I have said something similar for many decades:

The most dishonest act the human mind is capable of is to fool itself – to knowingly, intentionally, willfully, and deliberately fool one’s own mind.
