Quote of the day—Ed Morrissey

In the wake of the Newtown shooting, the mention of which caused Obama to tear up today, he demanded a renewal of the so-called “assault weapons” ban, provoking a furious reaction before retreating to a background-check proposal instead. The well had already been poisoned, however, and the effort failed. He’s made repeated references (Dan McLaughlin counts four times) to confiscatory policies elsewhere as a model for modern nations, and then expresses surprise and indignation when people dare to assume he means it.

If you like your Glock, you can … eh, you get the point.

Obama: Hey, forget what I said about Australia (twice) — no one’s looking to take away your guns!
[Don’t ever let anyone get away with telling you that no one wants to take your guns.—Joe]

  1. Lately, the more I hear Obama talk, the more I wobble between two potential explanations: 1. He’s evil and hates America, and will do whatever it takes to ruin the country; and 2. He’s incompetent and has no idea what he’s talking about, and spouts off what he thinks are good ideas from other nations with no clue what actually happened there or how they really worked.

In my mind, he’s been meandering between the two for his entire presidency; option #1 for this issue, #2 for that one. Lately, though, the more he talks, the more I think it’s both. They aren’t mutually exclusive, after all.

  2. archer:

i don’t see anything mutually exclusive in the alternatives, either. and, don’t leave out that he’s a narcissistic prick: he’s got the mussalina stare into the heavens expression down pretty good, i think.

  3. friends:

on the issue of “assault weapons.”–

the f.b.i. keeps crime statistics on the use of firearms. you can google it up pretty easily.

tables 6, 8, & 20 have entries for the use of rifles in murders & homicides. not surprisingly, to anyone likely to be reading this comment, the use of “rifles” of any sort makes up a minuscule portion of the murders and homicides in this nation.

there simply is no “wave” of crime using rifles. and, as you all know, the murder rate in this country has been going down for 10 or 15 years.

in short, obama is a lying, deceitful, manipulative and posturing bastard, whose sole motivation in all of this is to disarm his political opponents.

  4. I always take the position that anyone who cares can easily look things up and find things out for themselves. Then they’d know. Period.

Assuming a total lack of principles, and a total lack of understanding of, or hostility toward, the American ideals, anyone can easily discover that restrictions on citizen gun ownership have been counterproductive to the claimed cause of crime reduction.

That they either don’t know the truth, or are ignoring it, means they have evil intent.

In Obama’s case there can be no doubt. If you know just a little bit about his past, and his associations, you know. Let’s not pretend.

There is that saying, something to effect of; never attribute to malice what can be better ascribed to incompetence. Fine, but I have another saying for you all; never ascribe to incompetence what we know from repeated and long term evidence comes from malice.

In the case of the Progressive movement and all similar Marxist/authoritarian associations, we know that from the very get-go, over 100 years ago, their intent has been to undermine the American system and replace it with an authoritarian system. That’s malice. Combine it with greed, power lust, and even a heavy dose of incompetence, but in the final analysis they all know about the American Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution, and they hate it. Malice.

Let’s STOP being coy about it. There isn’t time for that.

  5. Ed Morrissey is a good man to have on our side. I’ve met him at a couple of blog events in Minnesota. He comes to the gun rights movement from his position as a political commentator. Smart articulate spokesmen are good to have around.

  6. From the link: “This is not a plot to take away everybody’s guns.”

Of course not! That plot will come later.

And anyway, it’s perfectly true that he doesn’t want to take away everybody’s guns. His guards will always have guns. No, he merely wants to take away YOUR guns.
