Quote of the day—Michael Z. Williamson

Americans should possess at least 1.25 billion firearms, likely closer to 2 billion, and at least 1200 rounds of ammo on hand in between range trips.

Only a coward with a small penis would argue for less.

They Complain About 1.1 Guns Per Person? That’s Not Nearly Enough
[Okay, without the prevalence of Markley’s Law the last sentence would be a little over the top. But the anti-gun people do go with Markley’s Law all the time so I find it amusing to reverse the tables on them.—Joe]

  1. I disagree with Mr. Williamson. If you own too many guns, either you don’t really know any of them, or most of them stay in the gun safe. Americans ought not,, IMHO, to own more than 750 million guns.

    • While few other than hard-core gunnies can become intimately familiar and totally proficient with a wide range of guns, I think an average person can be competent and knowledgeable about at least a half-dozen or so.

It takes no great mental or training feat to become comfy with a .22 pistol, .22 rifle, AR-platform, heavy bolt (30-06 / .308 range) rifle, shotgun, mid-caliber revolver (.357 or so), and appropriate self-defense cartridge pistol like a Glock in 9mm or a .40 S&W. It’s entirely appropriate to have duplicates of one or more guns as backups in case of failure or loss.

So a dozen per adult age 18-75 is an entirely reasonable lower bound for “enough” as a nation.

        • I believe the correct answer to the “How many is enough?” question is simple:

          Just one more.*

          *Perpetually.

  2. The gun is certainly one component, but the primary tool of freedom is that grey matter between your ears, funked up with distractions to the minimal extent.

Is we say 200 million competent, functional adults and adolescents in the U.S. (and that’s a stretch) with at least one rifle, one pistol and one shotgun each, that’s only 600 million guns. There are several ways to look at it, but I think the main point is that a free citizen should not be hindered, by law or other Progressive trickery, from obtaining the guns one wants. I lost count of my guns at around twenty, but that doesn’t count the ones my business owns.

Some collectors have hundreds of course, and if I’m carrying a long gun that means I have at least two firearms on my person, if I’m hunting black powder season I may have three on me (the rifle, a muzzleloading pistol and a Glock) but it’s difficult and rather silly to actually wield more than one at a time. One, then, in a major caliber, is a pretty good start, again, if your mind is in the right condition.

How many people do you know, who have a lot of firearms, but they could scarcely walk 200 yards outside of a groomed sidewalk without stopping to rest, or negotiate more than one or two flights of stairs, or are on a cocktail of pills for various stress-related health problems? I know more than a few, who, if it came to a life and death struggle, likely wouldn’t last more than a few minutes. It’s past time we get our selves in order, mentally and physically. Buying and hoarding more things may be fun, but it won’t help one bit in that department.

I’m not trying to be the wet blanket on y’all’s party, but to hopefully get some people to think a bit more about the big picture. I’m preaching to myself too, if the truth be known.

As I move about through town every day, I see zombies. Shamblers, dragging their carcasses as if they were carrying a heavy burden, which they are, in the form of mental, spiritual and physical degradation. There are millions of them, who, if they were cut off from their pharmacists and their fucking trauma therapists and the like, would be in a panic state within days. Guns can’t save them from themselves. No one can save them and they can’t help anyone else. How many of us are just a couple of ticks from that state of being? I don’t know.

  3. I am reminded of the line from ‘Lord of War’.

“There are over 550 million firearms in worldwide circulation. That’s one firearm for every twelve people on the planet. The only question is… how do we arm the other eleven?”

Hey, I thought it was funny.
