In response to, “guns don’t stop crime or make people smart.”
[It’s another Markley’s Law Monday!

One has to wonder if he ran the experiment and was disappointed in the results. But I’m pretty sure that he (or she) isn’t interested in experiments, data, and analysis. Childish insults appear to be the epitome of their accomplishments.—Joe]

  1. For some of them, rhetorical name-calling and insults is all they have. They have not GOT any logical or rational thinking skills. The way to deal with them isn’t logic, facts, or education. It’s firing back with ridicule, insults, and cut-downs. Why? Because that’s what works for their brains, and the brains of their low-voltage followers.
What was Ronald Reagan’s best debate line? Was it citing a fact, a SC precedent, or a line of reasoning? No, it was a well-crafted insult: “There you go again!” Even in Plato’s and Aristotle’s time they knew some people could never be reached by logic, only by emotional rhetoric. It may sound silly, but politicians use it, because (sadly) the left side of the bell curve goes all the way down, and their hollow lies wrapped in rhetoric work.

    • That certainly explains Trump to perfection. Then again, Ben Carson is just the opposite and he’s doing well, so there is hope that there are paths to success that don’t depend on pandering to the stupidity of the audience.

  2. Who ever said guns make people smarter? I’ve followed the gun culture in America for some decades now, and I’ve never found that assertion. I don’t know anyone who believes that guns reduce crime either. Armed citizens, yes, guns, no. Guns, being inanimate, just sit and do nothing.

We now actually have to explain things like that to the left.

On the left, if you say something insane and say it with conviction and audacity, that qualifies as an accomplishment.

That explains Hillary Clinton’s entire political career, right there.

      • I think that it can be said for MOST politicians, like a huge majority, especially those of a more big-government persuasion.

  3. Our side brings data, their side brings dick jokes. Shamelessly stolen from another commenter elsewhere on the interwebs.

    • True.

I somewhat prefer, “It’s very telling that we argue using SCOTUS decisions and they use grade school insults.”

      • But the problem is that they have still managed to get a large percentage, and sometimes a majority, of the votes. Says a lot, doesn’t it?

        • Low-information, FSA voters, swayed and swindled by bumper-sticker slogan politics.

Can our republic survive it? A couple of our founding fathers thought so.

”The advancement and diffusion of knowledge is the only guardian of true liberty.”
          James Madison

“Children should be educated and instructed in the principles of freedom.”
          John Adams

”It does not take a majority to prevail… but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men.”
          Samuel Adams

“We in America do not have government by the majority. We have government by the majority who participate.
          Thomas Jefferson

          • John Adams also said “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other,” and the left is doing everything they can to undermine morality and Christianity in every avenue of life, public and private, that they can. So that’s not a good trend.

    • I didn’t see that particular article. But I knew about the event. Very busy with things other than this blog right now and didn’t have time to comment on it.

Thanks for pointing it out though.
