Gun cartoon of the day

JustShootMe

The cartoonist has to be incredibly ignorant or deliberately deceptive to claim the 2nd Amendment is about hunting. They have to have completely ignored or want you to ignore, the first part of it. One of the main purposes of the 2nd Amendment is the security of a free state. It is not the right to hunt animals. It is the right to hunt tyrants and their minions. If this was not true then why would the U.S. Supreme Court rule that unless the arms have:

…some reasonable relationship to the preservation or efficiency of a well regulated militia, we cannot say that the Second Amendment guarantees the right to keep and bear such an instrument.

It is specifically military weapons that are protected by the 2nd Amendment.

Also, as Weer’d Beard has often said, George Washington didn’t cross the Delaware River to get to his duck blind.

One might think it is odd that anti-gun people will claim we ignore the first half of the 2nd Amendment (“well regulated”) but then they do that themselves when they claim it is about hunting. But what you have to understand is that these people have serious mental issues.

  1. It seems like somebody snuck in in the middle of the night and replaced Mr. 1789’s pile of dead redcoats with a bunch of deer and squirrels and shit. Someone should let him know..

  2. Plus they ignore the historical record. They have obviously not read the federalist papers, or seen any letters of marquee. Both demonstrate that *warships* complete with *cannon* were expected to be in civilian hands. Warships of the day could level a small coastal town, with no way for the townsfolk to fight back (unless they had their own cannon of course). That is more firepower than any modern small caliber infantry weapon.

But like we all know, ignorance is a requirement for their argument to win.

  3. Every time we go to the range or take a class or even clean our guns, we observe the “well regulated” part. Even practicing safe gun handling falls under “well regulated” I’d think, so when you pull a gun out and check the chamber or observe the 4 rules, you’re fullfilling a part of the requirement for a free state. As far as this cartoon goes, both weapons in the cartoon were/are modern military issued rifles used for, dare I say, assaults.

  4. Speaking of history, the “shot heard around the world” was prompted by a government attempt to confiscate the people’s weapons.

  5. So, those images of Leutze’s “Washington Crossing the Delaware” with a word balloon over Washington, “To my duck blind, Lieutenant Monroe” are fakes?

It’s just like Franklin said, most of the things you read on the internet are false.
