Gun cartoon of the day

Ebola

This is deliberate deception on the part of the cartoonist. Over half of the deaths by bullets are self inflicted and there is no gun specific preventative that could successfully reduce the number of suicides. Beyond that death by bullet is not an “epidemic”. Both the absolute numbers and especially the raw numbers have been dropping during the last couple of decades despite there being more guns and bullets in circulation, more people having easier access to them, and more people being able to carry guns in public.

The cartoonist furthers their deception by ignoring the potential risk of Ebola. Some strains of Ebola have a 90% death rate. Even if it were as low as 25%, as one might speculate it would be with first class medical care, with infection rates as low at 5% of the population this could result in four million deaths in a year in the U.S. You would be hard pressed to imagine scenarios involving bullets that cause that many deaths unless the government were to try confiscation of guns (H/T to Don K. for the link). Which one might imagine the cartoonist is suggesting. Hence we can tentatively conclude the cartoonist is advocating for policies which will increase not only the death rate from Ebola due to resources being moved from mitigation of the Ebola threat but increasing the probability there will be an increase in the the death rate from bullets. That demonstrates crap for brains. But as we can see it is common in their profession.

  1. Liberals don’t care about dead Africans, just dead Americans. Actually, they don’t care about Americans, just white liberal Americans.

Africans and Black Americans both count as 0 to liberals.

  2. Well, the one on the left is part right. Doctors kill about 9 times as many as guns due to medical mistakes.

  3. Any jackass can draw crummy cartoons. Just sayin’. It’s not exactly a high art (though the artists are apparently often high) and so it comes down to the bigoted editors who select the cartoonists and the fools who spend money on their publications.

Also, once again, this cartoon is reminiscent of the 1930s German cartoons depicting Jews as rats or as dirty, scary, deformed slobs.

  4. The rate of suicides by men is similar in England as it is here, but they use rope. Will these nannies now try to ban that?

  5. I wish people would stop publicizing Bob Owens’ “work.”
That article is nothing more than a watered down paraphrase of much better pieces written by both Mat Bracken and Mike Vanderboegh.
Additionally, Owens is a copsucker of the first order.
I stopped following his blog after he celebrated the cops summarially executing Chris Dorner by burning the house down around him a la Waco.
To add insult to that injury, he blocked me (and presumably all other dissenters) from comments after I criticized his praise of the barbecue by posting a comment stating that the police state response was irresponsible, reprehensible, and way over the top (remember how the cops wounded several innocent people, riddling their vehicles with dozens of rounds, despite the fact that neither the people nor the vehicles matched the description of Dorner or his vehicle any more than I and my F150 would match a BOLO for the Incredible Hulk driving the Batmobile.)

    • Owens also goes overboard in criticizing the open carry movement and any other gun rights activity that offends his Fuddness.
In short, IMNSHO, Owens is a pontificating gasbag unworthy of a following.

      • Agreed. Someone who won’t even support gun rights when they are even a little “controversial” like the people doing open carry will CERTAINLY not support them when the chips are really down. It might happen in Hollywood but it doesn’t happen in real life.
