An advisory panel charged with looking at public safety in the wake of the deadly Newtown school shooting agreed Friday to include in its final report a recommendation to ban the sale and possession of any gun that can fire more than 10 rounds without reloading.

Now this is interesting. They’re banning the GUNS, not the feeding device.
Obviously some tube-fed rifles are “guns that can feed more than 10 rounds” But say what about my 1911s? Factory specs they hold 8 rounds (S&W ships with extended base plates) but I can buy all sorts of crazy magazines that hold more than 10 rounds….of course I’ve never read many good reviews on 11+ magazines for 1911s (single stacks of course, Joe’s STI seems to do just fine with his zillion-round mags) so while I might be able to buy say a 40 round drum mag, will I be able to consistently get 10+ shots off before needing to clear a malf?
Of course here in Massachusetts I can buy an M&P9, but they ship to dealers here with 10 round limited magazines. Of course the GUN is CAPABLE of firing 18 rounds without reloading with factory mags….so what is my crippled gun count as?
Hell what if I buy some 10 round mags for my 1911? The mag holds 10 so it’s 100% legal for me to buy behind the iron curtain….but with one in the chamber I’ll be able to get off a super deadly 11th shot before having to go for my next mag.
Same goes for a factory spec M&P45 10 in the box, but an 11th in the spout.
And of course what about those first 9-10 rounds I fire, are they made of marshmallows and kitten farts?
This is very consistent with anti-gun people, they have little understanding of the laws in this country governing guns, and zero knowledge on how guns themselves work….but they want to dictate how we can own and operate guns.
They demand we defer judgement to the most ignorant person in the room, and call that “Common Sense”.
I noted that, too. They are idiots and fools. BUT: The further their overreach, the easier it’ll be to shoot the law down in court.
WB makes an excellent point. As has been pointed out before, to anti-gun folks, ignorance is bliss. The solution to the drug problem is education; the solution to the problem of teenage pregnancy is education; but the solution to the “gun problem” is prohibition.
Americans should know, better than anyone else, that Prohibition doesn’t work.
Indeed. Which makes it so depressing that most of those who aren’t pushing gun prohibition push drug prohibition instead. Only libertarians realize that neither makes sense.
