Quote of the day—Mayor Barbara Fass

I think you have to do it a step at a time and I think that is what the NRA is most concerned about, is that it will happen one very small step at a time, so that by the time people have “woken up”—quote—to what’s happened, it’s gone farther than what they feel the consensus of American citizens would be. But it does have to go one step at a time and the beginning of the banning of semi-assault military weapons, that are military weapons, not “household” weapons, is the first step.

  1. Hopefully, Barbara is destined for that special place where the totalitarian Statists go in the end. Right next to Lenin, Hitler, Stalin, Mao, et al…

  2. And again we have gun banners who know nothing of guns:

    ” semi-assault military weapons”??? Yeah and even if she means Semi-auto “Assault Weapons” (which as misleading a term there IS a definition…although these days not a concise one) No, they aren’t military weapons, and yes we do have need and use for them in our households.

    • Now, Weer’d, my Garand is only semiautomatic, and it for darned sure is a military weapon. {grin}

      Of course, it’s also 70 years obsolete as a military weapon. . . (not that I’d feel unarmed with one in a war zone).

  3. I forget if California has a preemption law. If it doesn’t, Miss National Socialist Burgermeister, there is nothing keeping you from passing a law like Chicago’s for your fair city. We don’t have enough cities competing for the title of Murder Capital of America. We don’t have enough laws emboldening criminals in an effort to stop a few crazies. We don’t have enough mayors who have no clue what it means to be an American and who would fit in just as much if they were mayors in China or Russia or (formerly) Great Britain (I take that back, China will execute for political misdeeds. America won’t execute for murder).

    Except for small changes in wording in the last two lines, this could be a warning and not a wish list.

    • And re that slippery slope treatise.
      Oh, wow. I’ll have to set aside time to read that.
      There are more types of slippery slopes alluded to in the table of contents than I imagined, much like there are more definitions of “Is” according to Alfred Korzybski’s theory of General Semantics than we knew when President Clinton famously made his statement regarding the definition of “is”.

      • In other words, shifting the Overton Window
        gradually, by chipping away at one side while building up the other, marginalizing people on one side of the argument by making them appear radical, and at the same time lauding those on the other side as being “common sense” and all.
        It can be (has been) done in conjunction with Cloward-Piven.

        • Thanks for the link. I remember this as Senator Daniel “Pat” Moynihan’s famous comment about “defining deviancy down”, which means what was once normal is now freakish and what was once freakish is now normal (Do NOT google “up your alley images San Francisco”).

    • The problem, Ubu, is that people ARE still saying the same sorts of things today. You, for example, think we need more gun-control laws. Our murder and violent crime rates are down, while other nations have rising rates even as they enact more stringent gun controls, and ours are being relaxed. Carolyn McCarthy said she won’t run for re-election because she can’t get more movement on passing gun-control laws, because she… (bunch of options deleted) is an idiot.
      We are human. Some humans are not wired right. Some are downright evil. Limiting or banning guns won’t change that – all it will change is who dies, and who becomes more defenseless (women, children, the aged and infirm) and who gains relative power (young, strong males of prime criminal years and inclination).
