Quote of the day—Harvey Weinstein

I don’t think we need guns in this country. And I hate it. I think the NRA is a disaster area.

MILLER: Movie mogul says new Streep film to make NRA ‘wish they weren’t alive’
[H/T to Emily Miller for the Tweet.

From the same article:

Asked if it was going to be a documentary. Mr. Weinstein said no, that it would be a “big movie like a ‘Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.’”

The movie mogul said his vision was to scare people away from firearms and the Second Amendment. He foresees moviegoers to leave thinking, “Gunstocks – I don’t want to be involved in that stuff. It’s going to be like crash and burn.”

Of course it’s not going to be a documentary. Facts would get in the way of his agenda.—Joe]

  1. “I don’t think…”
    “I hate…”
    “I think…”

    Narcissistic bleeding heart identified.

  2. Tee Hee. I’ve posted this elsewhere, too, but what the hell. I’ve got a big mouth (or keyboard).
Meryl Streep?!? Was she famous once? Bwahahahaha. OK. She’ll have me racing to the theater.

More important, is Weinstein’s crack about it being, “a big movie like Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.” Uh OK. That movie came out in 1939. And what kind of an impact did it have on American politics? The only reason I’ve heard of it is because I’m a Jimmy Stewart fan. This quote from Wikipedia (yeah, yeah, I know) made me giggle: “It is known that Alben W. Barkley, a Democrat and the Senate Majority Leader, called the film “silly and stupid”, and said it “makes the Senate look like a bunch of crooks”.[15] He also remarked that the film was “a grotesque distortion” of the Senate….”

Heh. A Democrat thought that movie made them look like a bunch of crooks. No, a bunch of crooks makes you look like a bunch of crooks. It’s just a bit of irony that this quote came from a Dem. But irony is never a strong suit for a progressive. Some of the films Weinstein has been involved with: Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Inglorius Basterds, Kill Bill V1&2, Grindhouse. All movies that glorify firearms violence. Beautiful.

  3. This is great. Weinstein will spend big money and produce a meaningless flop. Another object lesson.

  4. Meryl Streep, wildly overrated actress who turned a gift for accents and mimicry into a career.

Rich Little with tits, sans charm and humor.

Yeah, I’ll be first in line for that one Harvey.

    • His best films are flashy, action oriented violence films.

I’ll bet his anti-NRA film DOES get nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture, and will likely win at least ONE Academy Award in some category. Which proves exactly _nothing_. The Oscars are VERY politically driven and “old boy network” — witness Pacino (Scent of a Woman) beating Denzel Washington (Malcolm X) for Best Actor (Pacino was “due” an award), Chariots of fire beating raiders of the Lost Ark for Best Picture (snobbery – quick, how many of you own a copy of Raiders versus how many of you even KNOW someone who owns Chariots?), Goodfellas lost out to Dances With Wolves (more snobbery — Goodfellas has had a MAJOR effect on how any film with a “gangster” aspect is filmed since then, whereas Prances With Puppies has influenced drunk white guys holding fingers to their heads and saying “Ta-tonka!”), and even Weinstein’s Shakespeare in Love beating Saving Private Ryan.

Weinstein’s leftist-approved bigot film will win one or more Oscars, and flop in teh theaters, outside of liberal enclaves. Given the target (the NRA), Weinstein’s actions will do exactly NOTHING, except piss off Second Amendment supporters and look like very ham handed political propaganda for anyone who personally knows individual gun owners who aren’t blood drinking monsters.

        • Tarantino is well past his sell-by-date IMHO, Love Reservoir Dogs, Love Pulp Fiction, But of the two Kill Bill movies the first one was Hollywood masturbation, but I enjoyed the 2nd installment. His more recent films were horrible. I still don’t see what people saw in Inglorious Basterds, what I wanted was light-heated Nazi Stuff, what I got was people in period garb having inane conversations about crap.

Still you’re right Weinstein makes great pictures, but the great ones are fluff. What has he made that created any political change?

Further what films really have? Generally politically targeted films have such a narrow audience they flop, and the materiel quickly becomes dated so home video sales are non-existent.

  5. Pro-tip: If you are going to engage in blatant propaganda hit-piece, it’s best to *not* tip your hand before it’s release (let alone before you even *begin* production). Weinstein has just colored every project he works on, from now until his eternal rest, even if he doesn’t proceed with this one.

  6. Harvey Weinstein : [referencing the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising] This has been a project I’ve searched for ever since my aunt gave me the book when I was a boy. It’s an important story to tell.
    Howard Stern : holocaust story
Harvey Weinstein : It’s not a holocaust story as much as it’s jews with guns. It’s my whole philosophy or anybody it’s that when injustice is that great then you can’t just march into the camps. This is the opposite.
Howard Stern : Do you own a gun?
    Harvey Weinstein : No
Howard Stern : You don’t own any guns?
Harvey Weinstein : I don’t ever wanna own any
Howard Stern : Well, why if that story resonates with you why not own a gun
Harvey Weinstein : No this is this is when you’re marching a half a million people into Auschwitz
    Howard Stern : Right
Harvey Weinstein : I mean , whatever, I’d find a gun if that was happening to my people. I don’t think we need guns in this country. …

You can make pro gun Harvey Weinstein tomorrow’s quote. He’ll get a fire extinguisher after the house is nearly burnt down. I don’t think he’s really given gun control much thought or he’d have realized that if those in the Warsaw Ghetto could have found 50,000+ guns to arm themselves then they probably would have.

  7. “And I hate it.”

I’ve long said that leftist ideology (concentration of power and rule by intimidation, threat and force) is driven primarily by hate, dressed up to look like compassion. Now we have one of them (again) admitting it.

At least he’s clear about it.

And once again we have ubu proudly defending it.

Sure; there are the millions of dupes who have (sort of) good intentions, but that doesn’t alter the fact that they’re helping through their ignorance and lack of curiosity to further an altogether disastrous, destructive and often deadly ideology.

  8. He said he doesn’t own any guns. He didn’t say how many guns are carried by his security guards, though.
    Shades of Rosie O’Donnell.

      • An old Maine joke about a man who marries a “heavy-set” woman is that “They’re warmth in in the wintah’ and shade in the summah!”

I dunno about “Warmth” when it comes to Rosie. She seemed really nice and sweet until she came out, and then she’s appeared to be nothing but a prickly bitch.

Sad because I actually was a regular watcher of her talk show, used to tape it every day. Of course back in those days her anti-gun screeds didn’t bother me, because I was anti-gun too.

I’m glad I saw the error in my ways.

  10. It will be semi popular in coastal America, in flyover land is where the crashing and burning will be happening. Overall regardless of how much money is spent on production it will be a monetary failure equal to its social failure. Liberal hypocrites make me sick.
