It’s a Markley’s Law Monday gun cartoon!
The real message of course is the same as if blacks, gays, women, or some other minority showed up to a “presidential event”. Gun owners are a minority and need to get out of the political closet and show their numbers. That this cartoonist thought it was appropriate to say something like this just shows what a prejudiced bigot he is.
Via an email from Weer’d Beard who sometimes follows Baldr Odinson.
This cartoon doesn’t tell you a thing about the cartoonist beyond what he thinks is funny. He could be totally for gun rights (just like you) and this is his version of Markley’s Law Monday. So, it doesn’t show us ” what a prejudiced bigot he is” but it does show us how you jump to conclusions.
This cartoon doesn’t tell you a thing about the cartoonist beyond what he thinks is funny.
If you actually believe that (and I have no doubt you do), then I have a bridge to sell you.
Bet you voted to acquit OJ too.
Well, based on what I saw and have read about the OJ case, I would have voted to acquit, too. NOT because I thought he was guilty, but because the prosecution didn’t prove the case and was REPEATEDLY caught looking like they had picked a suspect and then created “evidence” to fit.
The best description I have ever heard of the case was “The Case Where They Framed the Guilty Man”.
I have “squinted” at that cartoon from every angle I can think of and still can’t arrive at a conclusion that is congruent with yours.
Also the artist, Horsey, has a long history of anti-gun cartooning.
I’m certain you are wrong this time.
See here, here and here for other examples of his work.
What I see is Mad Magazine type stuff. Political cartooning is an art and not every artist is making a personal statement with their art. Some people do it for money. Do you think the people who work for Mad Magazine believe every single thing they publish?
Horsey’s a vitriolic anti-gun loon, who never missed a chance to mock, demonize, belittle, and ridicule the gun-rights movement and those in it. If he made such constant bigoted stereotypes of blacks, Jews, gays, women, or other left-wing protected groups he’d be run out of town on a rail. Because he lampoons the conservative right, he got a Pulitzer.
He has a regular column at the LA Times, see here for just his latest example.
