Gun Song – God and Guns by Lynyrd Skynyrd

Lynyrd Skynyrd is a country rock band that has been around a while, originally forming in 1964, and having their strongest popularity in the 70s. They lost three member in a plane crash in ’77, but still had enough to reform for a while later.

This particular song is pretty basic country-boy southern rock with clear vocals.

  1. Everything that denotes, signifies or embodies the strength of America or individual Americans is under attack.

  2. Hmm. This is the same band that sings this?

Hand guns are made for killin’
They ain’t no good for nothin’ else
And if you like to drink your whiskey
    You might even shoot yourself
So why don’t we dump ’em people
To the bottom of the sea
Before some ol’ fool come around here
Wanna shoot either you or me

    • Yup. That’s “Saturday Night Special.” Their overall body of work is pretty pro-gun, but IIRC one of the band members had been shot by a handgun.

      • “…shot by a handgun.”
So the handgun jumped right up and shot him all by itself then? Or is it that since, for example, I incurred the loss of my vacation and thousands of dollars in expense as the result of an automobile crash this summer, I should be lobbying to take automobiles from everyone else but police and military? I mean, obviously; training, licensing and traffic laws weren’t enough to prevent MY suffering so why should anyone else (but cops) ever be allowed to drive? Why shouldn’t my pain result in everyone else being made to suffer? What happened to fairness? ; )
