Quote of the day—Brooke Anderson

The measure would repeal Chicago’s assault weapons ban and put public safety at risk.

Quinn skeptical of Ill. House concealed-carry plan
[So tell me where is the murder rate higher? Is it in cities that don’t have a “assault weapons” ban like Seattle, Dallas, or Miami? Or is in Chicago?

I suppose it does depend upon your definition of “public”. My guess is that Anderson and Quinn are concerned with the safety of their primary constituents—the criminal elements of Chicago. And that includes those holding government office.—Joe]

  1. It all comes back to control being the operative word in the “gun control” argument. Guns are merely the tools used to oppress or remain free. Nothing in Chicago politics indicates those in power want a free population – hence the rigged elections, kickbacks, payoffs and yes, gun control.

  2. Why are you listing cities so far away from Chicago? What about Detroit and St. Louis? And if you are going to list cities far away from Chicago, where is NYC and LA?

    • Ubu52:

Since the comparator was being made for cities WITHOUT an “assault weapons ban”, LA and NYC are ineligible — as both have AWBs in place.

Detroit is (and long has been) an utterly failed city, for many reasons. The city has been declining steadily for 60 years — under near unchallenged Democratic control. They are the Somalia of North America.

St. Louis’s high crime rate is limited to a VERY easily defined region — the parts of the city on the Illinois state line are hellholes, the rest of the city is safer than average. The farther you are from Illinois, in general, the safer you are in St. Louis. St. Louis is ALSO another city with near-unquestioned Democratic control for over 60 years.

      • ” They are the Somalia of North America.”

Wow. What did Somalia do to deserve that?

  3. Where ‘public’ = ‘The People’, and ‘The People’ = ‘The State’ (as in court cases…People Vs. Xxxxx). The only safety these politicians fear for is their own.

“When government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny.”

  4. It’s pretty funny watching all the politicians fighting over this-or it would be if it wasn’t such a serious matter. They just don’t get it. The fact that we have the toughest gun laws in the nation as well as the highest murder rate goes right over their heads. They are doing everything they can to prevent ccw from becoming law in Chicago. And I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t happen.

  5. Come on now it Chicago more people are shot there in a weekend then Beirut. It appears that public safety is already at risk. Absolute gun control having ZERO impact.
