What we are trying to do here tonight is not to protect ourselves from violent crime. What we are trying to do here tonight is prevent students and teachers from feeling uncomfortable by you carrying a gun to protect yourself.
Every witness that has come up here tonight, they want to feel unintimidated and feel free to debate freely on a college campus. And having you have the right to defend yourself against a violent attacker weighs more for them than for you and the right to self-defense. And for that, I apologize.

COLORADO DEM TO RAPE SURVIVOR: A GUN WOULDN’T HAVE HELPED YOU AGAINST RAPIST BECAUSE ‘STATISTICS ARE NOT ON YOUR SIDE’
[Some people are taking this statement out of context and using just the first paragraph. I too did this on Facebook. I now believe this is wrong.
Taken in the context of this lead in to the quote above things take on a different flavor:
Republican state Sen. Ted Harvey took a shot at Democrats’ gun control efforts, telling Collins that the point of Colorado’s proposed ban on firearms on campus is to make sure people aren’t “uncomfortable.”
Hence it appears to me that Harvey was explaining the stupid, callus, and indefensible position of the anti-gun people. Many people claim they have a right to not be offended or that gun owners make them uncomfortable and government should ease their discomfort. And this was the case in the hearing and Harvey was justified in calling them out for it.
You don’t have a right to not be offended. You have no more business asking the government to make you feel better by restricting the rights of gun owners than you do asking the government to forbid people of color from using the same water fountains, restrooms, and swimming pools or mixed race couples from using the same restaurants as you.—Joe]
Yep. We recently had a referendum of some sort on campus here to determine whether Chik-Fil-A would be forced to leave the Student Union Building, because gay marriage discrimination something something makes LGBTA students “feel unsafe” … due to having the restaurant be open. Or, something. Honestly, I didn’t really understand what the objection was.
I can certainly understand them not eating there, but I just can’t grasp what level of precious feelings special snowflakeness is required to actually feel physically threatened by the presence of a restaurant.
Ask them “If I was a black man, or an orthodox Jew, and that made you feel uncomfortable, what would you want me to do about it?” Any answer they give either paints themselves into the bigot-box, or makes them acknowledge they don’t give a damn about the rights of others, and are totally self-centered in all the wrong ways.
Arguing successfully against a leftie makes them feel uncomfortable since your argument undermines their entire world view. Their standard defense is to accuse the person arguing against them of some form of racism (sexism, hate speech, etc). Whenever you encounter this, the proper response is to graciously accept their admission of defeat and move on to the next point.

When I started reading that quote, I thought “man, this had better be a higher form of sarcasm, or this guy is the biggest idiot in the world.” Nice to know that sarcasm, in all its dripping, pointy glory is still practiced in some parts of the country! And never take anything you read online (especially a news quote…you’re never getting the full story from the news to begin with, and then cherry-picking from their crap just further obfuscates the issue) as “truth”. Always question!

People being attacked,raped or murdered and having means to protect themselves for me far outweighs you pissing your pants worried about the weapon. In the US I live in we ALL have rights of equal strength, your infantile concerns DO NOT trump my right to protect my loved ones and myself, I may even save your sorry ass.
