Quote of the day—Larry Elder

This battle for ‘common-sense’ gun control laws pits emotion and passion against logic and reason. All too often in such a contest, logic loses. So, expect more meaningless, if not harmful, ‘gun control‘ legislation. Good news – if you’re a crook.

[I have been unable to determine when he said this. While true 15 years ago expecting more gun control legislation is less and less a good bet. I’m skeptical it is because logic and reason suddenly are winning contests against emotion and passion. I expect it is because we are accumulating more emotion and passion on our side.—Joe]

  1. I don’t expect more gun control legislation, but there are other means of gun control being contemplated. The Dark Side doesn’t give up just because of a little old thing like a legislature that won’t cooperate.

  2. Emotion only carries the day when facts and logic can be overwhelmed for a longish time.

Today, with more than the limited news sources of the 1990s available, emotion can resonate with a majority uninterrupted for only a short while before facts and logic catch up and overtake it.

  3. It isn’t just reason and logic anymore, we’re getting experience on our side as well, and that goes a long way towards cooling emotion and passion.
