Quote of the day—Philip Van Cleave

It wasn’t some industrious Virginian smuggling guns to New York City, it’s people coming from New York to Virginia to get guns by some illegal means. It’s really their problem. They need to keep their criminals and drugs in New York. I’m not giving up my rights because New York can’t control its criminals.

Critics say Va.’s gun laws could encourage trafficking
[This, of course, reminds me of something Tam once said:

Where the hell do you get off thinking you can tell me I can’t own a gun? I don’t care if every other gun owner on the planet went out and murdered somebody last night. I didn’t. So piss off.

Van Cleave puts a more politically correct spin on it but still gets the message across.—Joe]

  1. Curiously the same people who want to restrict the legal ownership of guns because someone somewhere has misused them do not want to do the same thing with drugs, alcohol, prostitution, gambling, or cars. In fact, the misuse of drugs, and any criminal activity that occurs surrounding drugs is viewed as a result of the laws making possession and use illegal. Prohibition, the Volstead Amendment, is seen as affirming this connection, lending authority to the movement for repeal.

  2. That’s a good spin. NY criminals are coming down to VA and bringing guns back with them. The part you’re leaving out is, from whom are they getting those guns. If you trace them back a step or two you’ll find a lawful Virginia gun owner who somehow is allowing his legally owned property go to criminals.

That’s exactly the point at which proper gun control laws, which we don’t have, could help. Oh, I can’t wait for Obama’s second term.
