[If surrendering weapons was for the good of all then why don’t the police do it?
You don’t have a right to live. That would imply someone could be forced to provide you food, shelter, and medical care. As always when someone says something is a right the first thing you should ask is, “At whose expense?”
What the New York Daily News ignores or is oblivious of is that you do have a right to defend yourself and that all members of the U.S. Supreme Court agreed there is a right to keep and bear arms. I expect their ignorance will be forcibly ended by the courts within a few years. Whoever wrote that opinion piece will then be dragged, screaming and kicking, into the 21st Century just as the KKK supporters had to be forced into respecting the rights of black in the 20th Century.—Joe]
I can’t imagine this happening in Utah, but if it did, you can be assured that my response would be, “what guns?” and then when they produce the 4473 I am gonna say I sold them.
Though after Katrina, some states passed a law that would prohibit this, that didn’t stop them in the first place, as the second amendment has been a law for what? 220 years?

@Sean, mostly a semantic distinction. No one owes you life. But no one, including the government, can legally take it without due process of law. The natural rights of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness mostly mean the right to be left alone unless you start inferring with the rights of other people.
Hence the right to life is a negative right, not a positive one. No one can be forced to provide you the means to live even if they can be forced to allow you the existence of your life.
