Quote of the day—Matthew Quigley

I said I never had much use for one. Never said I didn’t know how to use it.

Matthew Quigley:
From the movie Quigley Down Under after Quigley uses a handgun for the first time in the movie with surprising results.
[This is my all time favorite movie. And this is probably the best line in the movie. As both a long range rifle shooter and a pretty good pistol shooter I really, really relate to this movie.

Then there is the the thing about a co-worker watching the movie after my recommendation and he said, “I know why you like that movie. It’s because you are Quigley.” That’s overstating things some. But perhaps not so much that I can’t see a little bit of truth in it.—Joe]

    I hope to meet you sometime. Would buy you a beer but if I remember correctly you don’t drink, guess it would have to be something else. Anyhow, I enjoy your blog. As you can identify with the movie, I enjoy your blog as I identify and appreciate your logic. I also happen to be a red-neck farm boy who became a software professional (more project management now than engineer). And Quigley also happens to be my favorite movie as I am a rifleman at heart but enjoy the utility of a handgun.

  4. Quigley is the reason I first got into long range shooting, that being Black Powder Cartridge Rifle Silhouette. I think most BPCRS shooters who started after the movie came out in 1990, probably can say the movie was the inspiration for getting into the discipline. Every time I get up to shoot offhand at the chickens out at 200 meters, I am in awe of Matthew’s ability to hit that bucket way up the road 🙂 I plan to bring my Sharps to Boomershoot to bang away at the metal target at the top of the hill.

  5. I’ve watched the Quigley movie several times. I like that it depicts gunfire sounds fairly realistically, among other things– whack…boom…echo roll, but some of the shots are a bit implauseable. “Three quarters of a mile, maybe” and he almost never missed, even when shooting moving targets at several hundreds of yards. Fanning shots from hip with a revolver and striking three targets withing about one second is also stretching it a bit. Still, it’s great movie.
