Quote of the day—Sebastian

I don’t believe modern gun control advocates are fueled by racists and xenophobic fears, I think they are largely afraid of anyone with a firearm, but they have continually denied history, and denied its relevance. This has been a great advantage to our side in this debate, as it allows us to have one. The reason our opponents don’t want to debate, is because they can’t. They can’t because they’ve had no serious intellectual challenge to the case we’ve built against them.

Quote of the Day: Federal Farmer Edition
[Remember that last sentence, “…they’ve had no serious intellectual challenge to the case we’ve built against them”. Most of them do not have a process by which they can determine truth from falsity. Furthermore, many of them do not care that they cannot determine truth from falsity. It is irrelevant to them and their goals. They flat out admit they are intellectually bankrupt yet they continue with their advocacy and have people that support them.

What is incredibly depressing to me about this is that instead of the debate being completely over in about 50 weeks (it takes a while for a few monthly magazines cycles to be processed) it has taken us 50 years to gain the upper hand and we still have a lot of work left to do.—Joe]

  1. Every thing you and the Federal Farmer says is depressingly true, but it is worse than that. Even in private school it is exceedinly rare that one gets in secondary or non-graduate- post secondary education (university/college level) ANY training in rhetoric or logic, or formulating an argument or the bases on which an argument can be refuted. At most, essays are written in English/Composition classes, or History classes, but how to write a better essay is taught on an ad hoc basis, with little attention paid to the nuts and bolts of the technique.
    As a conseqence, if anyone took a major in one of the wimp majors, or even a hard science major, no argument is taught, and one is stuck with weak reasoning skills and little knowledge outside one’s area of expertise. It becomes truer every year, as Will Rogers said, “there is nothing more ignorant than an educated man outside his area of education.”

  2. Great quote, but I see one little problem;
    “They can’t because they’ve had no serious intellectual challenge to the case we’ve built against them.”

    I say it should be;
    They can’t because there is no serious intellectual challenge to the case we’ve built against them. Try as they might, they’ll never find it because it simply doesn’t exist.

    The Enemy already has an answer to this though;

    “Logic is nothing more than a weapon, used by white men against women and minorities.

    “So there you have it, you testosterone-poisoned-racist-sexist-bigoted-homophobe-who-wants-to-dirty-the-air-dirty-the-water-starve-children-and-kick-old-people-out-onto-the-streets-with-no-food-or-medicine. Your ‘logic’, being a tool of slavery and planetary destruction, is at least as dangerous and deadly as your guns then. You have no right to speak– The first amendment doesn’t protect such hate and global destruction, so shut up, or else!”

    That’s where this is going– push verses shove. It always does unless people can realize what’s happening.
