Quote of the day—Mark Walsh

Illinois is really important nationally. The country needs one state people can look to and see it’s still doing the right thing.

Ill. likely to see fierce battle over gun control
[And if they were the last state in the union that still had legalized slavery, Jim Crow laws, or outlawed alcohol what would be the response?

Nationally both Illinois gun laws and anti-gun organizations are a disgrace and nearly irrelevant. It’s time to shame them into the dustbin of history.—Joe]

  1. Maybe they just want to keep them, since their Jim Crow laws fell out of favor, when they are named as such.

  2. Luckliy for them the alcohol laws are quite liberal (you can buy liquor in the grocery store)…as for guns…well…ahem…

  3. Really? This is just laughable, but I suppose there really isn’t much you can say that doesn’t sound ridiculous when history is about to leave you behind.

  4. Yep. “We’re the only ones….” Where have I heard that line before?

Makes me so proud to be a resident of the Democratik Peoples Republik of Madiganistan.

  5. “Illinois is really important nationally. The country needs one state people can look to and see it’s still doing the right thing.”

That second sentence is ambiguous: the “it’s” could refer to either the “country” or the “state” (Illinois). I’m sure he meant to imply that Illinois is “still doing the right thing”.

Of course, either way he is wrong. Factually, Illinois is “doing” it wrong on a fairly large number of subjects with guns being high on the list if not at the top. Even if the “it’s” is interpreted as referring to the country, the claim is still wrong: it is not necessary to observe continuing acts of immorality to know and follow correct moral behaviour.

  6. I have to second bob r, though it is a comfort to look at Illinois and know that where I live, Ohio, is improving.
Of course, then I come here and look at Idaho and remember how far we still have to go in Ohio

  7. Whatever happened to little old Vermont? They have never banned Concealed Carry, to the point where they can’t, even today, create a license that can be reciprocatively recognized by other states?

To me, this has been a greater beacon of “what we should do” than what Illinois ever will be!
