Reality check

I haven’t followed the happenings in the Mid-East all that closely but my co-worker Chet frequently comes into my office to update me with the latest news.

According to Chet, in the Mid-East at least some of the protesters are demanding the government give them a house and a job. From my viewpoint that is just Moon-bat crazy talk. Government is force. Except for sale and leases of natural resources owned by the government (I’m thinking of oil, trees, mining rights, etc. on government owned lands) the government obtains its money via taking it from someone else at the point of a gun. If you are demanding money from the government you are demanding they take it from someone else and give it to you. This can work as long as the parasites don’t overwhelm the hosts. Once the host can no longer provide for both itself and the parasite both die. Many people don’t seem to understand this.

As Lyle pointed out in his post earlier today Chomsky compares protesters in Wisconsin to the protesters in the Mid-East. What is it these people expect to happen? The money simply does not exist. In the case of our domestic governments they have been borrowing money for years and the “credit card” is nearly maxed out. The governments are attempt to reduce the hemorrhaging by a small amount. They aren’t even actually stopping the bleeding yet there are those advocating “revolution” if “the people” don’t get what the government can’t physically give them. The taxpayers (the hosts) have almost been bled dry and are dying (both businesses and individuals are going bankrupt). The parasites are being told they have to stop sucking so hard and they respond by demanding they be given blood that does not exist or else they will destroy the infrastructure that feeds everyone.

There are a lot of people that are in dire need of reality check. The sad part is I’m pretty sure the only way reality is going to penetrate their thick skulls is after a lot of parasites and a fair number of hosts have died.

  1. Look at the bright side: when gov’t finances do collapse, it’s the parasites that starve first.

  2. It’s NOT the zero-sum game everyone says it is. The Government, in addition to “owning” the power to tax, also “owns” a lot of “public” lands, buildings, etc. I hear virtually NO ONE even mentioning the Government’s second source of largesse as a means of putting value into what they owe vendors, etc.

In place of money they owed, Kalifornica issued IOUs which they called “warrants”, then threatened to refuse to pay them in cash (a “warrant” is an instrument that is payable i cash at SOME named bank. I was paid my Deputy sheriff’s salary by Warrrant back in the 1970’s). Were I to have been a holder of one or more of those CA “warrants”, I would have taken it, plus the evidence of refusal to pay it, to court in a collection action, and gotten a judge to issue me an order of possession against a particular piece of State property, of my choice, as compensation for value on the warrant. I would then take that order, send a facsimile of it to the Comptroller, and give him/her 30 days to surrender the property or pay me in cash, or I would go back to Court and get a second order (Writ of Assistance) directing the Sheriff of that County to take possession of the property and turn it over to me. My property of choice would be the State-issued automobile of s well-known State big shot, assuming the dollars on the warrant worked out with the approximate value of the vehicle. I would have the press with me at every step of my process, and again when I went to re-title the vehicle in my own name.

All legal and proper. All these steps are within the Uniform Commercial Code, which the State is bound by law to follow. Perhaps if the Government owned less property after my process was copied a few thousand times by holders of other “warrants”, they would have a change of attitude and realize how much it means to LIVE within their means.

  3. “Except for sale and leases of natural resources owned by the government (I’m thinking of oil, trees, mining rights, etc. on government owned lands) the government obtains its money via taking it from someone else at the point of a gun.”

Many of the ME countries get their money from oil sales, not taxes.

Rather than trying to explain it, let me give you a link: http://terreholmes.blogspot.com/2011/02/egypt-should-government-pay-or-people.html

Quote from the link: “The Emirates are happy here. They have everything that the rest of the world is working so hard to acquire. They have it all, handed to them for free.”

Read that and you’ll better understand why people are demanding a job and a house.

  4. ubu52,

Egypt does not have huge oil income as does Abu Dhabi or UAE. If you are saying the people of Egypt are too stupid and/or ignorant to realize the difference then I suppose you could make the case that my claim they were crazy to expect a job and a house be given to them was incorrect. Is that what you are trying to say?

  5. Joe,

“in the Mid-East at least some of the protesters are demanding the government give them a house and a job.”

I saw no mention of Egypt, only “Mid-East” so I thought you were talking about the other countries.

  6. I checked with Chet. It was Bahrain, not Egypt. So while their income is more oil export based than Egypt it is far less oil export based than say Saudi Arabia. While the opportunity for “a job and a house” may be a realistic request from the government it probably is still unrealistic to expect that be given to them.

  7. Ayn Rand called this “The Morality of Death”. These people want to see the end of the human race. They’ll deny it, of course, but continue to operate in a fashion which can have no other end.
