[I find it interesting that the Brady Campaign thinks this is a source of concern that needs legislative action. What are they going to do when I demonstrate I can fire that many rounds or more in that same time while switching magazines after every 10 rounds?

I think tomorrow after work will be a good time to visit the range with my video glasses again.

Are they going to legislate against my trigger finger? Yeah, that’s it, I have an “assault finger” they need to ban the possession of.

If they want a finger I’ll give them a finger. They won’t even have to get the legislation passed before I give it to them.—Joe]

  2. I’m willing to bet that there are some well-practiced REVOLVER shooters that can do that (with speedloaders, of course.)

    Probably even some who can do it, and keep all the rounds in a man-sized target at 5-10 yards, even.

  4. Shouldn’t be hard. I’m a complete novice compared to anyone who competes in practical shooting, and I kept mine on a man sized target at about four yards.

    (Had my own clip/magazine ‘d’oh!’ as soon as I hit submit.)

    Jerry Miculek. He can fire twelve shots from one six-shot revolver in 2.99 seconds. That’s roughly 1.5 sec per 6 shots = 30 shots in 7.5 seconds. IIRC, they were all on target, too.

    At that rate, he could fire almost twice as many (60) shots as the Tuscon shooter in the same amount of time, and probably have a fully reloaded revolver when the countdown is over.

  8. The police originally said 5 seconds (when they got the tapes from the grocery stores) but everyone keeps misquoting 15 seconds.

If the two-rounds-per-second number is accurate and the only metric the Brady Bunch is concerned about, I can almost guarantee you that I can manage that with nothing more than my PPS and its 6, 7, and 8 round magazines (though I will come up shy against the total number of rounds fired, unfortunately). If we are talking about rounds fired accurately, well, that is something else entirely.

    But we all know that two-rounds-per-second is not the interesting number to the anti-rights nuts – the only number they want is zero… zero rounds, zero guns, zero magazines. After all, there is no rational reason to choose 10 rounds as the maximum magazine size, any more than there is a rational reason to choose nine, or one, or none.

    I haven’t seen the videos and I don’t believe they have been released to the media yet. I suspect they will give them to the media after the trial gets started. (Releasing them now would allow another thing to prejudice the potential jury.)

    The New York Times was the one who reported the 5 seconds number.

  14. I think the lesson that needs to be taken away from this is… wait for it… Dont bring a stop watch to a gun fight!
