Quote of the day—Paul Helmke

What this shooting did is it showed how weak the gun laws are in this country. And the fact that this person apparently did everything legal until he pulled the trigger just shows how weak those gun laws are.

Will Tucson Tragedy Shift Gun Control Debate?
[Wow!

Imagine having that criteria applied to other things:

  • The slanderer did everything legal right up to the point where she opened his mouth.
  • The assaulter did everything legal right up to the point where he struck his victim.
  • The speeder did everything legal right up to the point where she exceeded the speed limit.
  • The shoplifter did everything legal right up to the point where he walked out the door without paying for it.

The very name of “The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence” tells you all you need to know to oppose them. They want to prevent “gun violence”. If they wanted to prevent slander or libel they would rightly be seen as wanting to infringe upon free speech. The same is true of their advocating for more restrictions on firearms. Their goal is, clearly, the infringement of the specific enumerated right to keep and bear arms, most people now recognize it, and the above quote shows they don’t even try to hide it.—Joe]

  1. “Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana, or any depressant, stimulant, or narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?”

Suspect lied on the 4473; Helmke distorts the truth as usual.

  2. He’s not distorting the truth; he’s using japete’s definition of legality.

If you do something illegal and get away with it, it’s legal!

  3. A lot of people behave completely legally, right up to the point where they commit all sorts of crimes – from jaywalking to murder. Society sets general norms of behavior, codifies the most important of those norms as laws, and expects members of that society to act within those. Surprise – some people ignore the laws and norms.

  4. Why won’t lawmakers do something about this “you haven’t committed a crime until you actually commit a crime” loophole?

  5. I like to call them Anti-Rights, not Anti-Gun, because people like Paul Helmke hate ALL of the individual liberties. If he got a registration law passed he’d be perfectly willing to call for police searching of homes to make sure everybody was playing by the rules.

Also they’ll turn to knives if guns becomes too small a target like in the UK.

  6. No, no, no, Joe. You miss the point. We need to make it illegal-er. Maybe make it a gun-free zone. Yeah, that would have worked. If only we made it a gun-free zone, then the nutbar wouldn’t have killed anyone. After all, murder is one thing, but violate a zone? That takes a real stone cold mofo.
