Quote of the day—Frank I. Cobb

The Bill of Rights is a born rebel. It reeks with sedition. In every clause it shakes its fist in the face of constituted authority…it is the one guarantee of human freedom to the American people.

Frank I. Cobb
January 1920
La Follette’s Magazine.
[Some people should get over it and just accept that the Declaration of Independence claims sedition is required under some circumstances and the Bill of Rights deliberately enables it.

The only people that could possibly object to this are those that aspire to be slaves or tyrants. Such people and their opinions should be given all the respect they deserve.—Joe]

  1. “…it is the one guarantee of human freedom to the American people”

And that is exactly the sort of gross misunderstanding accurately predicted by federalists such as Hamilton. Mr. Cobb’s indifference to historical accuracy was shared by many educated Americans; this reconstituted history being the gutter run-off of the philosophical pool from this country sprang, and watered fertile ground to spawn the likes of (statist) progressives such as FDR.

  2. The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absoluteiy free that your very existence is an act of rebellion….A Camus
