[This is attributed to Adolf Hitler by a few people but I am of the opinion that this might be “too good to be true”. I cannot find it in a speech or writing of his. But then my reference materials are limited to English and mostly on the web.
Still it could easily be the slogan of politicians in this country for the last 80 years. The so called “freedom” from want and and “freedom” from fear are the classic examples. The many others which have followed such as the welfare state, government run health care, bans on recreational drugs, and repressive firearms laws are mostly just details of the implementation.
But once the politicians come to the realization some people resist the Utopian vision through their own “selfish desires” and that the ultimate freedom from responsibility is achieved in death we then find ourselves back to Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Pol Pot.–Joe]
If you want something scary to think about, substitute the word “Fatherland” for the word “Country” in JFK”S famous “Ask not what your…” line. Say it out loud in a fake German accent to get the true effect, then repeat to a bunch of Liberals at their next wine and cheese party. The looks on their faces when they get it is priceless.
Let’s see if we can correct JFK’s quote;
“Ask not what your country can do for you.”
That works. Or;
“Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for yourself and your associates. The Great Promise, the genius, of the United States is that you will have the liberty to make things happen, great things, unencumbered and unmolested. THAT is what makes us unique in all the history of the world.”
Something like that would have been nice. But Noooooo! We’ll have to wait for the Teaparty (that would be us) to take control of the government.
With that, we’ll all sing a work song that was popular in the early 1940s’
