Test post

From my Windows Series Seven phone Windows Phone 7 Series.

Update: Yeah, yeah. I was in a meeting and didn’t want to spend the time looking for the proper name. I got the words correct. Just not in the right order.

  1. *stabs Verizon (and all the rest of the cell phone companies out there) with a rusty spork*

Stupid-arsed $30-a-month mandatory data charge for anything even approximating “smart” phones. Cannot even get a wifi capable phone any more without forking over every month…

Still, WinMo7 looks pretty slick, in and of itself. If you ever get bored playing with your toy (what with having spent however long it was designing and perfecting it and probably getting bored in the process 😉 ), I can probably find it a good home…

  2. Windows Series Seven phone?

I shouldn’t have to tell you, it’s ‘Windows Phone 7 Series’. Are we going to have to request read receipts on these important memos?

    Series Seven indeed…

  3. Bastard…

WinPhone7 or whatever isn’t going to be available to me for most of a year; but I’mna have to switch to verizon in about a month… No ATT 3g in north Idaho, means no iPhone.

I’m still not happy with the state of Android, and I like the way 7 looks, but I’mna get locked into something for 2 years in a month…

  4. Chris,

I’m confused, don’t you live in Arizona? Why does North Idaho’s lack of 3G cause problems for you?

BTW, EDGE does fine for MOST IPhone needs. Unfortunately, down in town, there isn’t even EDGE when we are at Boomershoot!

  5. Linoge,

Actually, I’m having a lot of fun working on this project. It has been a long, long time since I was this enthused about a project I was getting paid for. And you wouldn’t want the hardware we are developing on. My officemate and I have been plotting to take our phones to Idaho and do some Idaho Stress Testing on them if they will let us.

  6. Nuts. There went that angle.

Good to hear that you are enjoying it, though – few enough people do these days. Unfortunately, given that MS probably outsources most of their phone hardware (?), they probably would not fund the stress-testing…

  7. If I don’t get one to test with at work, there may be mayhem. Anyoe willing to lend me a backhoe?

  8. Depends on the phone – though I doubt any phone will go from 6.x to 7.x; it would appear to be the same kind of jump from Mac OS 9 to Mac OSX.

If you have the right phone, you can go from 6.1 to 6.5 (which is a mild improvement)

  9. Deadcenter,

Sorry. I don’t think any phone currently running 6.x will run 7.0. I don’t think the actual devices that support it has been announced yet. I think more info on this will be released at MIX in a few weeks.

  10. Thanks, but oh well. My Samsung Omnia will have to do. I tend to buy bleeding edge tech when it’s at least a year old, luddite that I am.

  11. http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa/jsp/faqs/faqs_view.jsp?SITE_ID=22&PG_ID=557&PROD_SUB_ID=561&PROD_ID=1360&AT_ID=157996 is an offical update to the Omnia, but it appears to only apply AKU 1.5.1, not WM 6.5

Based on what I have seen in the reporting from WMC, there is a tight hardware spec that WM7 requires, particularly as regard hardware buttons and resolution. The omnia doesn’t fit that.

Beyond that, I can’t speculate. I’m under NDA as well.
