Quote of the day–William B. Hershner

Very few persons qualify for the permit issued by a police chief. The only ones who qualify are persons who carry valuables. We refuse all we can.

[A woman that carries cash from her shop to the bank may qualify because of the cash. But the woman with a stalking ex-boyfriend doesn’t qualify. I guess human life doesn’t qualify as “valuable”.

Sort of like 50 years ago when there were literacy tests for voting and blacks were ask to read a newspaper aloud then given newspapers written in Chinese. Things are different now. The literacy tests were abolished but the “May Issue” concealed carry laws with nearly impossible to meet requirements to exercise the specific enumerated right to keep and bear arms still exist and are abused by small minded law enforcement officers. We’ve made progress but there is still a lot more to be done. And we have people in D.C. working on securing the right to carry being recognized as inalienable (H/T to Jeff). We will get there. It is just taking us a little longer than it did for “people of color”.–Joe]

  1. Thus we have the “Florida Loophole” as the press calls it, or Pennsylvanians who want to carry but are denied because some police chief wants to show how big and mighty he is over the “little people” loophole.

  2. 18 Pa. Cons. Stat. Ann. § 6109(e), law enforcement must issue a license “if, after an investigation not to exceed 45 days, it appears that the applicant is an individual concerning whom no good cause exists to deny the license.”

Mr. William B. Hershner has openly admitted that he is acting in open defiance of PA state law which states he MUST issue unless there is significant reason to deny the license. I agree with Joe, human being who have no significant criminal background and are of sound mind are a priceless commodity, they certainly are “carrying valuables”!!

  3. When I was living in Medford Mass (this was 2004, not the 60s) the Police Chief there bragged to the local paper that in his 17+ years as Chief he had never issued an unrestricted LTC A permit (our Conceal Carry), In Medford Mass, under this jerk’s rule the ONLY way to carry conceal was if your employer signed off on the application, and you could only carry “on the clock”, a peon like myself got a nice permit with “Target and Hunting” stamped on it. I still have it, I keep it here at my desk in the Armory so I NEVER forget.

This shit is STILL going on today.

  4. I believe it was Richard Pryor, who mentioned the black guy taking the literacy test Alabama, when handed a Chinese newspaper said he could read the headline. To the surprise of the badge toters they were aghast that this man claimed he could read even that much. So, they asked him what the headline said. The black guy complied “Ain’t no nigger votin’ in Alabama this year.”

Wasn’t funny when I heard it the first time, ain’t funny now. But it was one of the reasons I liked Pryor. Just different niggers now. I warned about it, but nobody believed me. Probably still don’t/
