RKBA depends on the weather

What in the world is the reasoning behind this?

Authorities lifted curfew and alcohol restrictions in King on Sunday, but said a state of emergency declaration remained in effect until Monday.

Authorities said the state of emergency declaration would continue until Monday 9 a.m., barring any unforeseen circumstances or severe changes.

Effective Sunday afternoon, alcohol restrictions and a curfew were lifted. All other remaining restrictions would continue until Monday, said Paula May, King police chief.

Other restrictions included a ban on the sale or purchase of any type of firearm, ammunition, explosive or any possession of such items off a person’s own premises.

The state of emergency was declared Friday due to severe weather.

Emphasis is mine.

  1. I live about 85mi south of King. The entire area that King is in lost power due to ice and snow. Oddly enough, the area I live was fine, just cold and rainy. I wasn’t even aware of the “State of Emergency” up there until I saw an article about it this morning, but I would have to guess the concern was over the loss of power and possible looting. Clearly a bit of an over-reaction… this is the area of NC that Andy Griffith used as an inspiration for “Mayberry”. Seriously. It is very close to “Pilot Mountain” (you may recall numerous references in the show to “Mount Pilot”). I doubt their were hordes of hoodlums roaming the street looking for appliance stores to break into. Anyway, my guess is that at sometime they copied a general purpose “state of emergency” regulation from some larger municipality and it included the firearm / explosive verbiage. JMHO.

  2. I think the mayor got a little uppity as even though the police stopped a few cars out in the curfew period no one was cited. course that could also be a courtesy as many people might not have known there was a curfew, but on the other hand when did the last time you didn’t know the law work for you?

still stand by the “watch em like a hawk.”

  3. So, the citizens are a bunch of irresponsible adolescents and the local government is the grown-up? Bullshit. They’re the servants and we’re the bosses.

“…or any possession of such items off a person’s own premises.” Or else, what? They’ll send in the ninjas? They’ll repeat the NOLA confiscation march (that turned out great, didn’t it?)? I don’t think so.

  4. Were they bothered by all those people, unable to use their electric snow-throwers, forced to resort to clearing sidewalks and driveways with a 12 ga?
