Quote of the day–Ellen Boneparth

L.A. Police Chief designate Charlie Beck presented the James S. Brady Law Enforcement Award to the Police Department’s Gun Unit.  The Gun Unit’s achievements are outstanding.  Through careful monitoring, it has kept the number of legal firearms dealers in L.A. at 17 for a population of 4,000,000 and has restricted the number of CCW permits to 23!

[If this is how the Brady people go about “respecting the Supreme Court’s reading of the Second Amendment” I would like to translate that into First Amendment language and see how it reads:

… The Jew Unit’s achievements are outstanding. Through careful monitoring, it has kept the number of legal synagogues in L.A. at 17 for a population of 4,000,000 and has restricted the number of Rabbi permits to 23!

Yeah, it is just as I thought. Respect isn’t really in their vocabulary when discussing the specific enumerated right to keep and bear arms.–Joe]

  1. Swap Jews for Muslims and I think you have a much more “current affairs” comparison that would resonate more with people. Analogies to the persecution of Jews works, but nowadays they aren’t as oppressed (relatively speaking) in the US as other groups.

  2. Similar to what you’ve done for First A-religion & the Jews, I wonder how the Brady Bunch would take it if their press release were applied themselves via to First A-Freedom of speech/press:

“Through careful monitoring, it has kept the number of legal public advocates in L.A. at 17 for a population of 4,000,000 and has restricted the number of press releases to 23!”

  3. “…it has kept the number of legal firearms dealers in L.A. at 17 for a population of 4,000,000 and has restricted the number of CCW permits to 23!”

Hell, most neighborhoods in LA probably have twice as many people illegally carrying concealed weapons.
And I know there are a lot more “unlicensed” firearms dealers than that in any good size bar.

  4. I can imagine how that “careful monitoring” of firearm dealers went. Substitute smothering, intrusive, overbearing, and you more accurately describe how it went from the perspective of the dealers.
