Quote of the day–Alan Gura

The freedoms we enjoy as Americans are secured to us against violation by all levels of government. State and local politicians should be on notice: the Second Amendment is a normal part of the Bill of Rights, and it is coming to your town.

SUPREME COURT TO HEAR 2ND AMENDMENT CHALLENGE TO CHICAGO GUN BAN
[The arrival of the Second Amendment needs to be followed up with arrests and prosecutions under 18 USC 242. If not it will drag on for decades like it appears to be in D.C. and it actually did with the Jim Crow laws in the deep south despite the fact that the 13th and 14th Amendments “came to town”.–Joe]

  1. Not to quibble with Mr. Gura, but the Second Amendment (and all the rest of the Bill of Rights) has been in those politicians’ lives for longer than they have lived them… Just now, they are actually going to have to pay attention, or, hopefully, face those arrests and prosecutions (which, sadly, I never expect to see).

  2. Gura rocks. I heard him on Beck yesterday.

“…sadly, I never expect to see”

Keep your eyes on the prize, Lionge. Only ten or fifteen years ago, few predicted we’d get as far as we’ve already got. Back then, the general consensus was that we’d have continued to slip backward. Dream big.

  3. I absolutely agree with your assessment of the necessity of applying 18USC242, Joe.

Been saying that for awhile. However, I do not ever expect to see a U.S. Attorney ever charge an “official” with that violation. Ergo, perhaps it is time for civil suits against “conspirators to deny civil rights”. Lower level of proof required and even if our side loses we bleed them.

  4. Straightarrow, without saying too much I will say that there are more than a few individuals in California who will be on the receiving end of these types of civil suits very soon after incorporation is achieved next June.
