The final topic we got into was what he thought the biggest threats to the Second Amendment were, and what we, as bloggers, could do about it.  His response was that he did not feel that the biggest threat to the Second Amendment came from groups like the Brady Campaign, VPC, or the now defunct Second Amendment Research Center run by Saul Cornell.  He believes the biggest threat to the Second Amendment comes from our own extremists and lunatics, and that the biggest way we could contribute as bloggers is in confronting that cancer within our community.

  1. Hmm. I wonder of I’m one of those extremist/lunatics. If not, I wonder what he means by the term. Functionally, it would seem to me that the compromisers, the moderates, the ones willing and even eager to appear “reasonable”, are the most dangerous. It is through that process that the current infringements have been foisted upon us.

    It is the extremes that define the center. If there were no threepers, no “let’s have a 2nd American Revolution right now” types, then the center would be between the gun moderates and the anti-gun extreme of Feinstein’s “Mr. and Mrs. America, turn them all in.“. And once that center was established it would become the pro-gun extreme and the center would move again toward Feinstein’s wet dream.

    As long as there are Schumers, McCarthys, and Feinsteins we need the L. Neil Smiths and the Mike Vanderboeghs.

  4. Extremism comes in many forms. Extreme boot-licker, extreme coward, extreme incremental surrender. And of course the weathermen types. Something less extreme perhaps for the free person?
