Quote of the day–Will Rogers

This country has come to feel the same when Congress is in session as when the baby gets hold of a hammer.

Will Rogers
[Well, I certainly feel that way. But apparently it’s not a universal feeling because we still have a Congress that has sessions.–Joe]

  1. Rogers understood government VERY well.

“Never blame a legislative body for not doing something. When they do nothing, that don’t hurt anybody. When they do something is when they become dangerous.”

“The difference between death and taxes is death doesn’t get worse every time Congress meets.”

“Alexander Hamilton started the U.S. Treasury with nothing — and that was the closest our country has ever been to being even.”

  2. Thankfully, most babies are incapable of wielding a hammer with any great skill or power.

Unfortunately, our particular infant has rather unnatural upper-body strength, and the intelligence of an irradiated rock. More the pity.

  3. Old Yiddish proverb:

To the man with a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
