Quote of the day–Kevin Baker

I’m tired of gun-bigots. PayPal needs to hear from US – the law-abiding gun owners of this country – that we’re no longer willing to just roll over when we’re abused by the companies we “trust” just because we believe in and practice the rights guaranteed to us under the Second Amendment.

[Read it and follow his suggestions. If anyone has a good suggestion for an alternative I’d love to hear it. I reluctantly use PayPal for Boomershoot and Modern Ballistics and would love to have a viable alternative.–Joe]

  1. I used gearpay before they shut down, they still have a notice up that they are going to be back, but it’s been well over a year (maybe even two). I have no idea where they stand on it. Supposedly the problem is that they couldn’t find software so they’re having it written from scratch. If that’s true, it wouldn’t surprise me if paypal is playing legal games to try to keep them from being able to develop competing software.

I was very happy with the service while it existed. If they ever come back, they’ll have my business again.

Maybe the gun owning community needs to let the gearpay people know that we support what they’re doing and are eagerly awaiting them getting back up and running.

  2. I don’t need event software. I need to be able to accept credit cards for payments. Typical merchant accounts via banks are hard to get and have monthly fees that are outragous.

  3. Eventbrite does accept CCs; . As I understand the process, you set up an account with them, they collect $$$ from your attendees, they take 2.5% of ticket price for processing, and then they transfer the balance to your business checking account. Not sure if 2.5% is outrageous when compared to merchant accounts at banks, though. You’d be more familiar with that that I would.

  4. We’ve managed to bypass PayPal! Another sponsor of the Rendezvous, LuckyGunner.com, an ammo site, is doing the on-line ticket sales for us with all proceeds (minus the 3% credit card fee) going to Soldiers’ Angels. Soldiers’ Angels is still taking phone orders for those who don’t want to purchase on-line. Details here: smallestminority.blogspot.com/2009/08/hey-still-wanna-win-one-of-these.html
    And thanks again for linking!
