Enemies of the community

Interesting perspective on the shooting of the police officers in Oakland:

This time, instead of the Gaza Strip in the Middle East, we’re talking about the MacArthur Strip in East Oakland. Instead of the occupation force of the Israelis in Palestine or the Americans in Iraq or Afghanistan, the low income Black communities in America are dealing with the police, FBI, ATF and DEA, to name a few. Instead of a suicide bomber or a sniper holed up in a building, Lovelle turned out to be a suicide sniper who used a gun instead of a bomb to take out enemies of the community.

I wonder how tolerant of that sort of attitude the MSM would be if it were some “gun-nut” or religious group who holed up and shot it out with the police.

I take that back. I don’t need to wonder. I remember the MSM treatment of Ruby Ridge and Waco. And in the case of Ruby Ridge the DOJ agreed with the “gun-nuts”–the FBI was way out of line.

  1. I’m not sure you should classify the site you linked as “MSM”. Look through the comments. It appears even the majority of black commenters didn’t agree with the sentiments in the piece. This looks to be a whack-job, militant racist “paper”, not the “MSM”.

  2. I apparently didn’t make myself clear. I didn’t consider the article MSM. I asked if the MSM would be tolerant of that sort of attitude.

My impression of reading the article was that there were a lot of Oakland residents that who held that attitude and that the MSM was looking the other way to avoid presenting them in a bad light.

  3. I didn’t need to read past the title and first sentence. This goes back at least as far as the 1960s radical hippie (Marxist) movement (still going strong, BTW) when all cops were openly referred to as “pigs”. It wasn’t but a short time ago that one of our esteemed (cough) Congressmen compared our troops in the Middle East to Nazi thugs or terrorists. This attitude has been brewing for generations.

    See “Peace”.

While I don’t see all cops and soldiers as angels by default, they do represent something of an icon for the security of our American heritage of liberty. As such, they are targets of the Left, who’s motivation is based in an irrational and bitter hatred for our country’s founding principles.

  4. Years ago, in a snit at some idiots I’d been dealing with online, I declared that anybody who uses the word “community” is inevitably up to something destructive and dishonest.

At the time, I thought it was a joke. Funny how that works sometimes.

  5. I would point out that the defendant at Ruby Ridge was a person with rather loathsome beliefs. That doesn’t justify the governments actions, but people should keep their distance from him.

  6. I’m not sure I would consider Randy Weaver (and Kevin Harris, both were defendants in trial for Degan’s murder) beliefs were “loathsome”. They were/are “White separatists”. As far as I know they didn’t want any government action to restrict the rights of non-whites. They just wanted to be able to live their lives without being forced to interact with them. And they way the tried to achieve that was via moving out in the woods and being mostly self-sufficient.

“Strange”, “unconventional”, or “unproductive”? Sure. But I wouldn’t call it “loathsome”.

  7. You should have heard the whining family members on local TV.
“He was nice” “He was gentle” “He was kind”

Yeah, sure. I’ll be that people said that of Jeffrey Dahmer (sp?) too.

Look, he was on parole for a felony. He was carrying the gun he used to kill the two motor officers. Right there he is not nice, gentle or kind. He oughtn’t have been carrying.

In addition Oakland is in Kaleeforincatia. A carry permit in Oakland? With Left of Left Ron Dellums as mayor? Heh, right…

  8. As far as I know, “White separatist” is a codeword for “really rather be a white supremacist, but need to tone down the rhetoric to gain converts”. I also remember something about such people trying to break away from the United States and forming their own ethnically separate country.

(There also black separatists out there who believe the same thing; I don’t agree with them either.)

    Alcibiades

You would be wrong. Weaver was targeted for entrapment because he refused to join a white supremacist group at the behest of the government in order to spy on them. He wanted nothing to do with white supremacists. He held them in distaste, if not outright contempt. So the government entrapped to modify a shotgun on a mark he was told was a full 18″ barrel. He screwed up, he didn’t check it himself but shortened it on the already placed file mark. It was 1/4″ short. Government agents were the requesters, Weaver didn’t know that. Then he was summoned to court on Mar 4, however, his copy of the papers did not agree with the copy at the courthouse which said Feb 4. So when he didn’t show up on Feb 4, a warrant was issued for his arrest. The idea being to coerce him to join a white separatist group for consideration at trial.

Then his family was shot up from hiding by people he didn’t even know was there until they opened fire. Deagan got killed. He earned it. Sorry, but he did. I have no bad feelings about the sonofabitch’s death. I do have bad feelings that the rest of them weren’t killed. With the exception of the local deputy sheriff who was representing the SO. He was the man who came forward and told the truth about what happened and revealed the lies of the official reports of all the other government participants. Until that happened Weaver was charged with murder. Funny how when the truth came out the real murderers never stood trial.

So, yeah, you would be wrong. Weaver just wanted the freedom to be left alone. He even moved so he would be. He didn’t and doesn’t believe in denying any freedom to anyone else, regardless of race.

I don’t care much for the separatist philosophy, but you have to admit, even adherents of it aren’t denying freedom to others. Unlike the supremacist movements.

    So, yeah, would be wrong.
