A bill to build the camps for us

I received a forwarded email from Boomershoot participant Joey last night:

Rep. Alcee L. Hastings, D-Fla., has introduced to the House of Representatives a new bill, H.R. 645, calling for the secretary of homeland security to establish no fewer than six national emergency centers for corralling civilians on military installations.

The proposed bill, which has received little mainstream media attention, appears designed to create the type of detention center that those concerned about use of the military in domestic affairs fear could be used as concentration camps for political dissidents, such as occurred in Nazi Germany.

The bill also appears to expand the president’s emergency power.

In a sense, this is true. But as pointed out in Liberal Fascism, in the U.S. Fascism comes with a smiley face. Here is some text from the bill:

(b) Purpose of National Emergency Centers- The purpose of a national emergency center shall be to use existing infrastructure–

(1) to provide temporary housing, medical, and humanitarian assistance to individuals and families dislocated due to an emergency or major disaster;

(2) to provide centralized locations for the purposes of training and ensuring the coordination of Federal, State, and local first responders;

(3) to provide centralized locations to improve the coordination of preparedness, response, and recovery efforts of government, private, and not-for-profit entities and faith-based organizations; and

(4) to meet other appropriate needs, as determined by the Secretary of Homeland Security

So, yes, these centers could be used as concentration camps (“other appropriate needs”). But it will be for your own good and the good of society if they actually use them. Shared values and all that you see.

  1. Interesting how they do a good job in making you look like an a-hole if you do not support thier ideahs/bla bla bla (literally). If one disagrees, then obviously they dont want shelter (and so on) for the people that need it!
Remember what people were saying about those who opposed the Patriot Act?
(maybe not the best example, it will do though)

  2. Part of this is legit, the use of Military assets to provide services to affected civilians in case of national emergency. One of the lessons we learned from Katrina is that different branches of Government do not play well with each other. It is easy enough for Federal agencies to work together but state and local agencies often don’t have policies in place for joint operations. That is why fedgov adopted NIMS http://www.fema.gov/emergency/nims/

The only real fly in the ointment is the Posse Comitatus means military assets cannot be involved without an appropriate request from State authorities means that these camps could be used under the Insurrection Clause if there were a power struggle between Federal and State authorities. Where have we seen that before?

My gut feeling is that this is a bad move, adding this to our mission load doesn’t make sense.

  3. Isn’t this straight out of the Bill Ayers / Weather Underground playbook? Isn’t there a vid on YouTube about this?

Do you really think they’ll put huge camps on military bases without ‘security measures’?

Can anyone research parallels with the WWII internment camps authorization bills?
Can someone compare with the language used to set up Dachau? Auschwitz?

Not that this is acceptable in any event, but why would such camps be under control of Homeland Security rather than FEMA if they are truly for disaster relief?

  4. From “Red Dawn” – The Father in the camps “…avenge me, boys, avenge me…”

  5. Found the vid:

Search YouTube for “Larry Grathwohl on Ayers’ plan for American re-education camps and the need to kill millions”

  6. Sure. Why wouldn’t six be enough?

    From Wikipedia (Pre-war camps):

By 1939, six large concentration camps had been established: Dachau (1933), Sachsenhausen (1936), Buchenwald (1937), Flossenbürg (1938), Mauthausen (1939), and Ravensbrück (1939).

They did fairly well with just six pre-war camps. With todays technology and improved efficiency I don’t see why they would need more than that until after the war starts.

  7. Jim; “Part of this is legit, the use of Military assets to provide services to affected civilians in case of national emergency.”

Shouldn’t that be up to community groups and the state national guards?

“One of the lessons we learned from Katrina is that different branches of Government do not play well with each other.”

If I’m not mistaken, more government assets were put into place, and more quickly, than in any time in U.S. natural disaster history. I think part of the “problem”, such as it is, results directly from too many people listening to the Demotards’ outrageous crocodile tears and claims of victimhood above all else.

Nor do I believe different branches of government should act as one. I believe that preventing such a thing was in fact a specific goal of the Founders. If we take this “different-branches-need-to-be-coordinated” idea to its logical conclusion, we would be calling for a single, unified, one-branch government. We would eliminate most of the authority of Congress, or eliminate Congress altogether, as it is nothing more than an obstacle to “getting things done”. As Algore put it, “the time for debate is over”. This all comes from Marx, Lenin, and their followers of course, and is older than any of us. Taking it even further, since efficiency is our only concern here, we should install a Supreme Dictator for Life, being as how these silly elections are nothing more than a distraction from “that which needs to be done”. Why, after all, should a presidente have to concern himself with the will of the silly little people, or with fundraising for the next election? If he already knows what needs to be done, why should anything in the world be allowed to get in his way?

No Sir; a government that works efficiently is one that destroys our liberty all that much faster. One that is usually gridlocked is a government that is, by and large, doing less harm to our liberty.

“It is easy enough for Federal agencies to work together but state and local agencies often don’t have policies in place for joint operations.”

Again, I question “Joint (government) Operations” as a goal for a free society. Surely one could argue that small area, autonomous operations are the preferred ideal when it comes to disaster relief and many other things. If those should prove inadequate, he next level (assuming government involvement is to be considered proper) would be the State National Guard or militia (better still of course would be for the fed gov to never again support the building of large infrastructure below sealevel in a hurricane target zone. What we have here is a failure, built on flawed assumptions, built up with more failure, all the result of .gov meddling in the first place).

I recall a conflict of interest taking shape post Katrina. The .gov was actually keeping private assistance out in some cases. I know all the rationale, I just don’t approve of it.

This I say after observing that over my lifetime, the local, private charities and community organizations (Scouts, Rotary, Elks, Moose, et al, to say nothing of church organizations) have been on the decline, as government interests freeze out the private ones.

How do you think this is going to go? I say “all the way” unless we take a very, very different attitude.

  8. “Part of this is legit, the use of Military assets to provide services to affected civilians in case of national emergency.”

And lets try to keep our language in top condition. Words mean things. Katrina was not a national emergency. It was a local or a state emergency. A national emergency would be something like a pandemic or a foreign attack.

We know for an absolute certainty that NOLA will be hit by another hurricane. How does that saying on the repair shop wall go? “Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.”

Likewise, as the U.S. government becomes more and more corrupt and contrary to its original, enumerated purposes, we have to be prepared to deal with it. One thing is to prepare ourselves mentally. For example; I for one am never going to a government camp. Period. There are other absolutes, but my saying them here would be foolish.
