Quote of the day–Right Democrat

Despite the increasing presence of Democrats such as Brian Schweitzer, Russ Feingold, Jim Webb, and Bill Richardson who are embracing our Second Amendment rights, it seems that gun policy for the Democratic Party is still being dictated by the likes of the Brady Campaign and the Violence Policy Center instead of by Democrats themselves.

Isn’t it time our party found its own voice on gun legislation?

Doesn’t our party deserve better than to be snared by the pitfalls of the past?

Standing at that podium, Obama could have made one small change to his acceptance speech without compromising his own core values: “Don’t tell me we can’t guarantee the right of law-abiding Americans to own AK-47s while keeping them out of the hands of criminals.” A small change in wording, true, but one that would have added a new dimension of clarity to Obama’s gun policy.

Tester says Obama is no threat to gun rights
[As a libertarian with a focus on the right to keep and bear arms I wish the Democrats would see the light and stop being so divisive on this issue so I could move on to other issues. It’s a specific enumerated right and gun restrictions don’t reduce crime so why do they keep trying to further infringe on our rights? The cynical see it as a desire for power and a need to remove guns from society to achieve their goals. I’m not sure what to think about their motivation but I do know Barack the Savior Obama uses weasel words on the gun issue and cannot be trusted.–Joe]

  1. “…snared by the pitfalls of the past?”

Yeah, the pittfals of socialism for instance. Get rid of all the socialism, permanently, and I’ll gladly vote Democrat. In fact I’ll never vote Republican again. How’s that for a deal?

“…keeping them out of the hands of criminals.”

For anyone who hasn’t figured it out yet; criminals will always have guns. The only debate then is about whether we’ll also have guns, or whether the criminals will be granted a monopoly on them.

Somebody tell that to the DNC. They obviously haven’t gotten the memo.

  2. Forgive me for suggesting that it’s shabby reporting to say that:

“The cynical see it as a desire for power and a need to remove guns from society to achieve their goals.”

    – simply because one man says he is a cynic, and distrusts the government’s intentions. There is a powerful historical lesson in watching how the fascist/marxist/Islamic (see Stalin, Hitler, Mao-Tse-Tung, and most recently,Darfur) regimes have considered gun confiscation to be one of the first orders of the day.

One need not be a cynic to see history repeating itself. It’s convenient for the Left to pretend that by creating “gun-free zones”, they are creating a safer America, when anyone with a modicum of intelligence can see that the opposite is in fact true.

But one need look beyond the deceitful face the gun-grabbers offer us, and make the connection that a Totalitarian society is not possible, as long as its citizens have and bear arms. And the Left surely is aiming for an unarmed, cowed, unquestioning citizenry, starting with indoctrinating our children in mandatory government-run schools. Viz, Obama’s 0-5 mandatory preschools.

In my time, if a school board had decided that “sensitivity training” was needed and necessary, because some guy wants to dress up as a girl, and wants to use the girl’s bathroom as well, we would have laughed in their face. Now it is stated policy that it is not only OK, but we have to put up with watching a guy using the girl’s bathroom. At the very least, we would have said, “hey, we want to use the girl’s bathroom, too!”, and then proceed to beat the shit out of the dude. We didn’t need no stinkin’ sensitivity training. Nowadays, it’s required. What is happening to America, when we send our kids to schools who frankly tell us, if we should ask, that it is not the parent’s business – it’s between the school and the student. WTF?

Our Nation will eventually wake up to this despicable social engineering. But a nation which is armed and awake will be in a very different position than a nation which is awake, yes, but who has allowed their guns to be outlawed, “for our own good.”

Well, this turned in to a petit rant, didn’t it?
