NRA on state AG amicus brief

Another wheelbarrow full of cash just showed up at my bunker from the Apex of the Triangle of Death. They just put a news release on their website about the state attorney generals signing on to the pro-individual rights amicus brief in D.C. v. Heller.

I like this part:

This brief by the state Attorneys General comes on the heels of last week’s congressional brief, having the largest number of co-signers of a congressional amicus brief in American history, with 250 House Members, 55 Senators and the Vice President of the United States, acting in his capacity as President of the Senate.

I’m betting the decision in this case will be delayed compared to most. Lots and lots for the Justices to read and ponder.

  1. A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the Right of The People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

(not sure I got all the syntax right– I typed that from memory)

That’s not so much to read that, along with catching up on Opra episodes, they’d need to lose a lot of sleep.

  2. It is my understanding the justices are required to read every word of every brief and every reference cited by those briefs. The average SC case has 1.5 amici briefs. Take a look at the list for this case. I count 47 for Heller and 20 for the bigots.

I would be willing to give the justices a pass on reading all of them and the references. They could just read the ones from the bad guys, declare they are full of B.S. and order the U.S. AG to start prosecuting D.C. politicians and law enforcement. But that seems unlikely to occur. So my prediction stands, it will take longer than usual for them to digest this and render a decision.
